I’ve got a workbench with a pretty good vice set up but I see on a lot of videos and photos that most bat makers have some sort of rest for the non clamped end of the bat, anyone got any good pics or tips on how I can DIY one?
Thanks in advance.

Bit of 2x4 with pipe lagging wrapped around it and then fixed to the bench is what I’ve seen a lot of people use.

Is you’re just bolted through the bench, and loose enough so it can be swivelled?
-
Yes mate, I have also made the hole for the bolt a little bigger than the diameter of the bolt so it doesn’t twist and unscrew the washer and nut. The only difference with mine is I’ve used a manicure cushion for the padding rather than pipe lagging, but lagging is significantly cheaper.

Cheers, got plenty of time so no excuse not to sort it now 😬

Not sure if anyone other than @LEACHY48 read this, but thanks for the help. Here’s what I have so far, bit Blue Peter bit will do the job to start with.

Looks good mate!

Looks very similar to what i use mate, as long as it does the job. Mine is actually the foam from an old office chair over half an old cigar box I found covered in Gorilla tape. Looks basically the same as your set up mate.
Good effort

Have ordered a manicure cushion of Leachys recommendation to pimp it out but coming for HK so probably won’t be here before next Xmas.
Have balanced bat toes on my knee while shaping and sanding on one leg that anything would have been an improvement.
