I know there is a popular topic like this on another forum, but don't think there is one here. List the best 5 and worst 5 grounds you've played at.
Best-
1. Taunton CC- Absolute road, lush outfield, nice changing rooms with bar and balcony n all that. Pretty much the home of Somerset 2nd xi
2. Bridgetown CC- Voted as the prettiest ground in the country in 2008. Lovely setting, really lucky to play there regularly in the summer
3. North Perrott CC- Probably the best pavillion at a ground where I have played, nice balcony with good bars upstairs and downstairs. Also, its like being in a restaurant when having tea!
4. Bedminster CC- Not a great area of Bristol as some members may agree, but their pavillion is superb, big ground with flat outfield and wicket.
5. Clevedon CC- Nothing special really, but a good wicket and outfield. Good teas, decent bar, big changing rooms. Everyone looks forward to the Clevedon match every year, just a decent place to play cricket really!
Worst-
Blagdon Hill CC- Awful wicket, awful players (hit 27 off on over, with a good 6-7 wides), worst teas i've ever had, half their team were chavs. Cheating umpires, gave a caught and bowled not out as a 'bump ball', on the softest wicket in the world!
Trull CC- Again, nasty wicket, the ground is home to about 60 cows in the winter, portaloos that haven't been emptied in a few years, horrible place!
West Monkton- Death Track, Pylon in the middle of the pitch, end of.
Bridgwater CC- Not there main pitch, but played a under 15 game there once in the middle of a council estate, litter on the pitch, horrible.
Porlock CC- I play friendlies for them and love it, unfortunately I have almost been killed about 3 times because of balls jumping off a length onto my helmet.....
-
Best:
North stifford village green: our home ground and one of the better ones in essex. Not the biggest ground but its about quality not quantity! All pitches on the square are roads!
Pegasus and Corringham CC: Nice place, like lords, you go down the steps to get to the pitch, you don't walk out from the stands though, but from the bar and on a hill. Greenish pitch.
Worst:
Liberty casuals cc: school field, dagenham way. Say no more.
Orsett CC 2nds ground, changing rooms are a metal container thingy split in two with cricket bags! Weeds for the nets pitch!
Horndon on the hill cc, Country park. Nice little club house but VERY poor pitch!
-
Best:
Culford School-Have a great walk out to the wicket, through a proper gate, some cows on cow corner ;) not big changing rooms but just a lovely ground.
Worst: Milden CC-the pitch hadn't ever been rolled, there was moss on the wicket, they didnt have covers, the tea was dreadful, there wasnt a bar.:(
-
Best: Bradley Stoke CC :P
Portishead CC
Stone CC
Barrow Guerney CC
Worst: Tetbury CC
Phoenix West Indies CC
Dyrham & Hinton CC
YMCA CC?
I don't know where to put Old Down, outfield like the Alps, but in a nice setting....
-
best:gloucester city winget lush wicket wicked outfield and the best tea's cheers step mummy ;)
worst:gloucester civil service crap just crap no covers the ball dosen't bounce just pure (No Swearing Please) one
good thing lush cheese and onion rolls :D
-
Is our ground rated as the worst as we dicked u by 90 odd runs ;)
-
Lol well I only played at your ground, when I got hit by Rich, knew what he would do next and still miss it lol.
-
Quick-Keep, I agree Pegasus is a decent ground. Changing rooms are really small though, and the steps are a long walk back from the middle! What club you play for?
-
Best grounds: Truro CC: Stunning ground, only problem is that a river runs round half of the ground, and I've seen Marcus Trescothick lose about 8 balls in one innings...
Bracebridge Heath CC: Fairly picturesque, good bar as well!
Sleaford CC: really nice ground, nice and big for me (being a spinner!), good bar, etc.
Worst: Ooo, being a club cricketer there's a huge list!
Nocton CC: Outfield like the Alps again, portaloos for toilets, rotting wood for a pavilion, horrible!
Aisthorpe CC: Literally as above, really bad.
Long Sutton CC: Nothing wrong with the ground, but I could have found better teas in a dustbin!
-
Best: Bradley Stoke CC :P
Portishead CC
Stone CC
Barrow Guerney CC
Worst: Tetbury CC
Phoenix West Indies CC
Dyrham & Hinton CC
YMCA CC?

Oi its nice, you wouldnt think sh*t i'm playing at old down today would you??? or would you??? I agree the outfield is awful but it makes some games quite funny, pitch is always decent though! And i think ymca is nice, always seems to play well and outfield pretty flat.
Nicest is bedminster though with the worst being netham park by a long long way.
-
worst - pyrford or Woking and horsell
best - Bank of England (one of the best roads in the south east?), any of the village grounds around dorking. I also played at some nice grounds in Holland, years ago, shame about the artificial tracks though
-
Is our ground rated as the worst as we dicked u by 90 odd runs ;)
not very nice tom ;)
-
Sammy agree with the Netham ground had to play there 3 times in 2 weeks! Only place i have ever seen someone try and turf a square to repair a footmark....nicest i have played at is either braunton or arundal both belters! Portishead is always a nice place to play when the suns out as well as usually brings a decent crowd.
lol carn he knows im messing nothing wrong with our ground comparred to some of the council pitches people still use in our league!! Theres alot of rivalry between Ym and Bradley stoke as half the players for each team make up our Sunday side so banter starts pre-season and carries on until we have beaten them at home and away;)
-
loler's who won the league tho tom ??? ;)
-
Yeah portishead is nice thomas. But yeah netham park is just sand for a wicket (literally) and dog poo in the outfield!
-
We beat them at home and away was rained off :( although i wasnt playing in that one, think we beat Sams lot too lol again which i missed :(
-
yeah everyone beat us haha :), you were in the two's as i remember :P and at a stag do for the first game. We're in a transition period!
Top after 6 games, unbeaten then we became crap haha.
-
Worst- CBBEA (sorry Craig) it's basically a cage with an athletics track around it! Although, the teas were pretty damn tasty! :)
Best- Ryde. We played there for a school game and it was a really nice ground with a really good wicket
-
Oi its nice, you wouldnt think sh*t i'm playing at old down today would you??? or would you??? I agree the outfield is awful but it makes some games quite funny, pitch is always decent though! And i think ymca is nice, always seems to play well and outfield pretty flat.

Lol I like playing at old down, just not fielding. But that could be said for most games :D
Bedminster was a good shout, we played them in u-15's after we won the league and I had the best bowling figures lol. Never forget that season, I averaged 1 after 5 games and I hit 5 against Bedminster lol.
-
Quick-Keep, I agree Pegasus is a decent ground. Changing rooms are really small though, and the steps are a long walk back from the middle! What club you play for?
Belhus cc

Ha, Pyrford, Classic uneven pitch, It was only fair when they didnt get promoted,
Have you played at Woodbridge road in guildford, That is probably the best ground i have played at, followed by holmbury st mary for a village ground,
-
another one of my favs is Hadleigh :)
-
best: Bishops stortford school.
Frinton on sea.
Maldon
worst: clacton, some chav keyed my car, (No Swearing Please) all over the wicket
-
Bishopston - nice ground
-
Best all round west brom and dartmouth really nice pitch and ground
but enjoy current ground set behind a farm so way off ghe beaten track and have a huge crowd every week( of cows and sheep )
worst was a place where the pitch covers were carrier bags plus changing room were the groundsmens shed damn Sunday team
-

I have played at both - the guildford ground a few times, on the end of some heroic beatings too (including watching the ball sail over my head a few times as one of their players hit 120odd off 60 balls...)
The holmbery ground it truely lovely, especially with a BBQ afterwards...
-
ahhh when i said bedminster before i think i meant bishopston, which is the one with the homes around it that looks like its been painted, near henbury i think, top of the hill before westbury on trymme???
-
with netting around the boundary and OAP's all around :P
-
Yeah thats bish right? Its so picturesque!!! I remember one of there lot hit the guy in a wheel chair as he wasnt by netting and i was fielding closest and got shouted at and blamed for i!
-
Yeah a few bowlers got hit over the netting, a 'different' game lol
-
no he wasnt stood behind netting stupidly, it hit his wheel chair but he said it hit him, they had like every member of staff out there making a huge fuss, checking him out and road testing his wheel chair. and then demanded an aoplogy form me as i was closest next over and i was like ummm no haha i didnt do it and he should be sat behind netting...or atleast facing the cricket as at the time he'd been facing the wrong way! Idiots haha :)
One of the buildings has a roof tile missing, from one of our batsmen :), other than that the place is compelte perfection.
-
Always liked Normandy CC and Sunbury CC, dislike most of the Croydon grounds!!
My own club has a reasonably pretty ground - has anyone ever played at Chertsey CC?
-
normandy is a lovely ground
-
Lol, one of our batsman hit the same house 3 times :L
-
At Normandy?
-
No, sorry Bishopston
-
Sunbury CC
(No Swearing Please) me... you aint that nutty guy for them called Bruce are you!?!?!
-

Mr Cat, I have never had the honour of playing at chertsey, Maybe one day. Normandy is nice on their main ground, But that one round the corner seems horrid, But spose not many teams will have two pitches next to each other.
-
Anyone fancy batting on this beauty...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D7-1TgkLhA&feature=youtu.be
-
I would love to play there! Great for your technique!
-
played at Chertsey about 20 years ago, when they were in the Lee 75 League. Always did a bit. Last game I played on it we scored 230 ao, having been 190-0 (Dr Paul Hawkins of Hawkeye fame getting runs from what I remember) and Chertsey did something similar, falling 10 runs short with 9 down.
-

Good to hear that Bishopston is a nice ground, they were promoted into our league this season so should be a good day out :)
-
I play against a team called liileshall and there pitch is not far off that tbh many complaints to the league from various teams was like 12-14 out of 20 team scores around 100 because of it there dozy off spinner was getting it chest high off a length last year
-

It is a nice ground and they are a pretty good bunch of lads as well, so you should have a good day!!!

bloody hell I woudldn't want to keep on that never mind bat
-
love to know the final scorecard for that game. Remember these are highlights and it won't have played like this for every ball!
I remember the 86/87 ashes test had similar cracks on the final day. Everytime Edmonds/Emburey hit a crack it turned miles and nobody could get a bat near it - likewise miss the crack it was a road. Australia played the final day out with comfort.
-
Best - Winchmore Hill - Bournemouth - Ilford back in the day - Hsbc
Worst - Benfleet - Chelmsford (always windy!)
-
Best - Uppingham School, Stamford School, Oakham, Bourne, Sleaford, all bowlers graveyards, flat and hard.
Worst - Claypole, you cant tell the wicket from the outfield and you had better lock your car.
-
Forgot to add a CORKER!!
Dont know it will fall in best or worst as it can be entertaining but dangerous.
Westcliff CC or Leigh on sea cc. The pitches are side by side and the boundary overlaps, and sometimes to the square of either pitch. you can be fielding at deep point or deep square, but actually be 10 yards from the batsmen
-
Best York CC, Beckwithshaw CC, Harrogate CC
Worst Thirsk, Fenner
-
Henly is a shocking ground. Also played a game in a bad part of coventry with 3 burnt out cars by the side of the pitch....
-
Henleys ok if you can sneak off to the beer garden in the pub lol
-
Probably a different Henley mate....
-
yes - Pacman is on about Henley on Thames. Nice ground, prone to flooding.
-

Yer I was on about Henley in Arden!!! S!IT HOLE!!!
-
Henley on Thames, think it is lower than the river why its prone to flooding. a few years since i played there traditional clubhouse changing rooms a bit small if i remember right
-

Is there a good part......? ???
-
Best: Truro
Worst: Tregony
-
Best: Truro
Worst: Tregony
Having visited both and played on the former, agreed! Although St Austell's up there, mainly because it's in St Austell and anything that isn't nailed down will be nicked...
-
Have played at Viv Richard's Ground and also Stanford's ground. The first is exceptional as you could imagine but Stanford's is a bit of a wreck now with no work been done since he was arrested. Though saying that the changing rooms and The sticky wicket are all good.
Locally, Ampthill and Campbell Park in Milton Keynes are very nice grounds. Few nice ones with school games etc, Bancrofts in Essex and St Albans schhool
-
Is there a good part......? ???
Yes! Coundon, near Bablake School. Wonderful ground, absolutely gorgeous.
-
Whats Helston like driven past it a few times when on holiday looks nice from the roadside
-
es! Coundon, near Bablake School. Wonderful ground, absolutely gorgeous.
Yes, I'll give you that as it's only a couple of mins up the road from me and is a nice ground. There are a few nice grounds dotted around but most of them are in the outlying areas.
-

The best wicket around Cov area I used to play at and now has a housing estate on it :(
-
Would that be the old Peugeot ground?
-
Yes mate! I played for their 1s when I was 14 and loved the ground etc ... sad times
-
Yeah it was an absolute beauty of a pitch. Never played there but always wanted to - it looked so good. They have built a new one behind the new Peugeot offices but doesn't look anywhere near as good :(
-
I'm still in touch with a few lads who still play there. they like it as the facilities are awesome but the wicket isn't quite there yet. Might take a drive over during the summer and see what it's like
-
Havant down in Portsmouth is a good place to play, spinners paradise
-
Having visited both and played on the former, agreed! Although St Austell's up there, mainly because it's in St Austell and anything that isn't nailed down will be nicked...
Haha, spoken like someone who truly knows Cornwall! Yeah St.Austell is a lovely ground, just a shame about the town!
-

Only down there a few weeks a year, but I know the place like the back of my hand! Can imagine there are some gorgeous grounds down there, I've only seen a few!
-
played at Pagham a stones throw from the sea. Not the greatest ground but lovely location.
-
I play at clevedon and as biased as I may be, on sunny afternoon i not played on a nicer ground. The pitch is always good, nice outfield, good clubhouse/changing rooms too.
-
Ahhh not too far from a few of us. Ian Buchanan plays for Minehead and me, Ayrtek and Peplow are up in Bristol. I believe Tom will be playing at your ground next year.
-
Clevedon isn't that where the t20 final was or was that cleve? I always get mixed up lol
-
that was cleve i thought?
-
bloody hell I woudldn't want to keep on that never mind bat
go to 0.57 the maddest delivery i have ever Ever seen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_D7-1TgkLhA&feature=youtu.be
-

Yep, Sam's right. Clevedon's where Andy Caddick has played recently
-
Clevedon is a decent ground, I'm sure I've played against you Nespreso? Down at Minehead where we hit 310 and lost! I opened the batting and hit 20 odd... I was at the game at your place but scored because of my broken leg/ankle :P
-

Yep was quite a game, I seem to remember our number 3 spooning the ball to point and then being dropped on 0 before going to on get a 100. Shame the game out ours was a wash out, it was nicely set up.
-
Haha was an epic game to say the least, and the guy on our team who dropped him still gets abused because of it to this day! It was nicely set-up for you to thrash us! We're up at your place in June this year so hopefully it will be a nice wicket like normal :)
-
best: Whitgift school. awesome wicket and outfield. surprisingly small for 1st class venue
worst: goring or Brighton and Hove CC. both v average but always really cold when we play there so even worse
-
Will still be up at loughborough about to graduate then so will miss the game. Our groundsman retired end of last season so hopefully the new one will do a similarly good job. Just gunna hope this season is the season my run up and bowling action fix themselves. If not I got a nice new lens and will be the team photographer.
-
Here's ours after yesterday....

Ah fair play, I guess you'll be back for the return fixture in July/August time? Were you the guy who bowled up the hill at our place last year, 2nd or 3rd change? If so, you looked pretty nippy! I umpired and turned down those 2 close LBW's lol
-

Yep the one who was bowling the top line to a left hander ;) which was a shame as it was a right hander ant both ends. As for the LBWs they were very close :P
-
Haha! Very close LBW's, my finger was out on the 2nd one... just didn't make it up (sounds dodgy :s ). Didn't make much difference in the long run though, after you guys made short work of 300!
-

Thats just part of second team cricket, to be fair I think both were out. But i cant say anything about them not being given because Im fairly sure it would have been the same result if it had been the other way round. LBWs, unless it is hitting the base of middle, are a bonus, Its the same for both teams so its fair, afterall its a batsmens game :D in fact in my very first game of senior cricket their captain cut me to slip in my first over and it wasn't given out :S
Back on topic, I had first outdoor session on tuesday and clevedon wicket was already looking good. Nothing beats a sunny afternoon of cricket with the smell of freshly cut grass.
-
Best:
Bishops Stortford CC Amazing pitch, Amazing outfield
Belhus CC: Home team, outfield not always the best but the pitch is always a road, nice setting too.
Worst
Goresbrook CC: Poor pitch, poor facilities
Grays and Chadwell CC: One of the worst pitches going, doesn't help when chavs on motorbikes drive across your game either.
-
Best: Shenley. :o - There was a butler?! And the pitch was a road and outfield excellent.
Though Highgate is a lovely place to play, short straight boundaries, road of a pitch and quick outfield (300 sometimes isn't enough there...)
Worst: Wembley - dodgy pitch there yesterday - balls rising sharply or keeping low and shooting through, no work done on pitch (it was green :( ) and an uncut outfield :(
Wilf Slack - Highgate 3s-5s's ground. Oh dear.
-
Bookhams pitch is the worst ive played on theres a ridge at both ends and the outfields not great either.
-
got a few crap ones:-
East Keswick - a fine example of a (No Swearing Please) yorkshire wicket, up at the throat and down at the toes, seams, spins - sightscreens and a clubhouse save it from being the worst
Kippax - truely terrible, half cricket pitch half rugby field. Drunken locals, council yobs, theft, fights, abuse - you name it I've either heard the story or seen it myself there . pitch plays ok
Slough 5's - before they moved to Boyne Hill they used a park pitch near slough town centre. Couldn't tell it from the outfield, first innings everything flew up at the throat, second innings everything went along the floor. No facilities, without doubt a few class shithole.
