ooooooh - it's tough to pick an XI for this right now this instant - however, I have had 5 Amstels and 4 Heinekens, so I reckon I'm a 'proppa selecta' - here's my best possible 12. You will of course disagree....................................
Elgar
Bravo
Williamson*
Smith
Labuschange
Stokes
DeKock+
Ashwin
Broad
Bumrah
Abbas
Rabada - 12th
Anyone want to pick and XI to play against this lot? How about:
Crawley
Sibley
Taylor
De Silva
Du Plessis
Shakib*
Watling+
Jamieson
Nortje
Anderson
Boult
-
Would love to see
1. De Kock +
2. Warner (classing him as fit as I think he'll play the next test)
3. Williamson*
4. Smith
5. Labuschagne
6. Stokes
7. Jadeja
8. Ashwin
9. Cummins
10. Hazlewood
11. Anderson
12th man - Starc
-
Latham
Warner
Williamson
Smith
Labuschange
Stokes
Holder
Watling
Cummins
Anderson
Lyon
Broad
-
Holder a good call - Lyon - hmmmmmmmmm, not sure he is ahead of Jadeja, Ashwin or even Maharaj or Yasir Shah these days?
-
For me:
Elgar
Latham
Labuschagne
Williamson (*)
Smith
Stokes
De kock (+)
Holder
Ashwin
Cummins
Starc
12th - Boult
-
Tough putting broad and Anderson in a world 11 given they go “missing” on the subcontinent
Icc bowling rankings make interesting reading with wagner at number 3

Warner
Pujara/Labu
Williamson (Captain)
Kohli
Smith
Stokes
Latham (WK)
Ashwin
Cummins
Wagner/Jadeja (Depending on the country)
Bumrah
-
Interesting how many have Smith given his shocking run of form since the 2019 Ashes.

I spent like an hour on looking at this last night and still can't choose a side. No love for Babar Azam?

Has a broken thumb right now IIRC?

If we assume no injuries, I think (bearing in mind the perennial issue that we have with the few standout candidates to open) that I would go:
Latham
Labuschagne
Williamson (c)
Kohli
Azam
Stokes
Watling (w)
Cummins
Archer
Lyon
Boult
12th Man - Bumrah
Azam is obviously not fit, so that spot would be a toss up between Root, who I would make open and move Marnus down, and Rahane.
Those with most grounds to take offence would be QdK, Broad and Starc.

Where's the hypothetical game being played? Makes a huge difference. How about a World XI to play the current No1 side, Australia (lol), in Australia?
1. Latham
2. Elgar
3. Williamson
4. Azam
5. Kohli
6. Stokes (c)
7. De Kock
8. Ashwin
9. Rabada
10. Wagner
11. Bumrah
Squad members: Anderson (in for the pink ball game), Root, Rahane, Archer and Yasir.
