Now I have got your attention with probably the sexiest thread on CBF I hope you can help me.
We need a full restore on a set of ransome tractor pulled gangs and our big green heavy roller
Any ideas from you guys?
The work required is beyond our skill set and we hope to use some of the “return to cricket” grant to get the kit fixed
Any help welcome.

Simple - Call out your local agricultural engineer to have a look and advise
-
I’m afraid they would not be interested in such jobs - I need specialists
I’ve messaged auto roller who look very promising for the roller.
The gangs are proving trickier

Strange! They must have plenty of work on. You certainly dont need to be a specialist to work on gang mowers, they aren't particularly technical or difficult to work on. Just time consuming
Im guessing you've already tried garden machinery repair shops aswell?

With any machinery I would say pay for the diagnosis first and foremost. Some jobs are surprisingly simple to do yourself but hard to diagnose without mechanical knowledge.
-
Yes mate - both need slightly more than a service

That’s the actual roller & it’s this type of gangs (even I don’t have a picture of the actual gangs)
I need restoration contacts not service contacts pls.

Thanks - all the above has been done and agreed, we just now need to find specialists.
-
Who has told you that you need a specialist?
Two companies I use do triple and gang mowers but I am at the (No Swearing Please) end of the country. If you dont find someone local give me a shout and ill pass the contacts on
-
That would be great, thank you.
We’ve been making do and mending for a number of years with both bits of kit and the time has come to give both a proper overhaul.
All contacts from the forum welcome

On Facebook there is a group called cricket groundsman UK you might get more help there.

Poweroll are another roller company along with Auto roller who you've already contacted. The groundsman FB group will hopefully be able to suggest for the gangs - is there a manufacturer mark on them?
-
Yes they are ransome - which means once with pimped them up they will hopefully hold their value.
Currently found a great place but it’s in Lancashire and currently trying rt machinery in Aylesbury
Thanks for the roller tip - that’s the best two from what I can see as well. Roller needs a full refit - it’s not safe currently
-
The gang mowers won't be a specialist fix, they're trailed so no motor.
Bearings will need to be checked or replaced and make sure everything is free, lubricated. Then the blades will need to be sharpened.
See if you can find a construction plant mechanic for them.
I've got a fitter at work that fixes all our construction plant but he also does our groundcare equipment.
Roller will just be engine, hydraulic pump and motors. Hardest thing will be getting the spare parts
-
You could try Swillington Rollers or JGC Sportsturf.
-
@t2ylo ill dig out a contact that’s based on the outskirts of bristol that might be able to help mate.

Thank you all for your help
I have an update on his most riveting of niche groundsman topics
* Ransome Gangs are off to Crewkerne Horticultural Society for a restoration - they collect & return (for a small charge) they will assess & quote for the full restoration but standard service & regrind is £132 per unit plus parts and VAT
* Auto Roller only deal with their own brand rollers so cannot help - but Poweroll have been superb, just trying to figure out exactly what we do but I think we have a plan - we will rent one of their rollers for £95pw plus VAT whilst ours is either saved or put to sleep
If anyone is still reading this I will update with photos and progress as it happens
