Title: Joe Root technique
Post by: adb club cricketer on January 24, 2021, 06:07:00 AM
One thing I observed in Joe Root's batting in SL series is that he has changed his technique against fast bowlers at least. Previously he used to have the straight back trigger movement which kept him closed off after the trigger. But in the SL series, I see he is moving the back leg back and across with front foot almost at same place as original, similar to Steve Smith and this ending up in a open position similar to Gary Palmer technique. Not sure if this minor change is the reason for his new found form or if this is just a temporary adjustment he made only  for the subcontinent.

Shortened up his trigger too.

Think the Sky analysis was also that he's not ending up in as wide a stance so he's better balanced and he's noticeably unweighting the bat more.

I don’t think he is following the Palmer method. Just seems to have shortened up his movements.
Sibley is in that has been coached by Palmer.

His backlift looks a lot like the method Gio Colussi advocates. I know he's worked with Dan Lawrence a lot so possibly something he has picked up there.

He has said he's watched a lot of Kane Williamson bat this winter, he's probably picked a few things up there
