As most people are I was bored earlier this week so decided to attempt to mimic the ‘players profile’ of the GM bats.
I had purchased a Slazenger 2020 bat a few months ago for £80 from SD. It was pretty big to start with at 2lb 10 with 40mm edges and the spine doesn’t fit through the gauge (very flat face).
I did forget to take a ‘before’ picture (I’ve used a stock image below which doesn’t really capture the shape)but it was very thick at the toe with the spine running almost all the way through.
After stripping it down, squaring the toe off (about half inch taken off the bottom) I took my orbital to the toe and tried to create a more duckbill thin toe as seen on the Chroma.
I’ve been back to it once and made the duck bill a little longer.
It now comes in at 2lb 8oz with the same big edges and spine, picks up delightfully and is still very responsive.
It’s no Player Edition but it kept me entertained for a few hours anyway.

Nice work there. What grit did you use to take the weight down?
-
Most of it with 120 grit as it was the only one that would stick to the worn Velcro on the sander pad ( I’ve ordered a replacement)

I’ve done similar on a couple of bats. Like the shape and would rather have the weight in the middle than the toe. Worst case if I blow a tour I can but a new bat 🤣

My thoughts exactly 👌🏻

How long did it take with 120 to get the weight down that far? Planning something similar with one of my old bats.

Couple of hours max, that’s with continuously stopping to make sure even amounts have been taken off each side.
I wanted to start with 80 grit but as I said my sander pad was struggling
-
@Kulli how did you get the stickers to stick back after the toe modification?

Cheers, that's some time killed this weekend then!
-
thank you!
No idea what type. Found it in the tool box, have tried to find more but never found one so thin, it says 3m on the inside of the role but no model name 👎🏻

thanks again, ive got some wilkos cheap double sided tape somewhere so i'll give that a go and if it doesn't work i'll look out for some 3m stuff

Been thinking of doing something similar with one of my heavier bats, you've now given me the confidence to give it a go, yours looks to have come out well
-
It’s easy done, just err on the side of caution. It’s easier to go back and take more off later on than it is to put it back!

This is what I’ve used with great success, anyone know what the type is, I’d be most grateful.
