Title: Breaking in Spikes!
Post by: NT50 on March 16, 2021, 02:27:31 PM
Afternoon fellas!

Gonna be after a new pair of spikes in the coming weeks. I’ve worn a pair of Asics Gel Gully shoes for about 2 seasons but have just never been able to get used to them. Initially they gave me blisters for the first couple of weeks before settling down, however last season they wore through at the heel and the blisters returned.

I always struggle with new spikes and was wondering if anyone had any methods of getting them to bed in a bit quicker?

Cheers!

Take the spikes out and wear them around the house

Think if you need to break in Spikes, then they might have not been the right ones to start with. I've been GN Flexi and Cage Spikes, no issue at all. Actually they've turned out to be the most comfortable Spikes I've used.

Agree with this....I struggle with my feet and new footwear. Have found now though and for last 7 years all so my feet are fine with Adidas spikes, tried Puma recently  as used to wear them all the time back in the day but just didnt get on with them.

Depends what material your spikes are made from. All my new shoes that aren't knitted/woven material, I tend to bend them a bit before wearing them, either by standing on them or just using my hands. Find it helps to do this particularly over any pressure points - big toe, heel, etc.

Get yourself some Puma 19.1s... no breaking in required!

I remove the spikes and use them to bat in during nets.  Enough natural movement to break in the shoe but avoids the loads that you put through your feet bowling or fielding

Bit the bullet and bought some New Balance Ck10’s.

Went a size up due to them apparently coming up small. They turned up today and they’re so narrow I can’t even fit my foot in them let alone with my ankle support on.

Back to square one again!

May take a look at the Puma’s if anyone has any idea how they shape up size wise. If not I’ll take another chance with ASICS or try out Adidas I think

Have you got the latest ones with the blue NB branding? I found them extremely tight on foot for my first few net sessions. Have stretched a fair bit though and are now lovely.

Nope these were last years range I believe (or maybe even the year before, white/red colour way)

Even without my ankle support and giving them a fair stretch my foot couldn’t even be forced in so there’s no way I can keep with them, they’ll have to go back.

Bought a pair of Puma rubbers last year (they were 2019 range) and find them tighter than my Adidas - maybe I just need to wear them more

Not a popular opinion I suspect, but NB spikes are shocking.

If you're struggling, custom spikes are the way to go now Asics have bailed out of the UK market.

Would agree with your New Balance point. I’ve tried on 3 different styles from New Balance and not been impressed. 2 of them were so narrow I would be strangling my foot, and the other just had poor stability.

They’re awful. I couldn’t even get mine on!

In other news, I’ve just ordered another pair of 19.1s in the new 2021 colourway. Check out these bad boys!

I’ve ordered some Puma’s but the new ASICS sound interesting. Thought they had pulled out of the UK
