Title: Contact lenses or glasses?
Post by: Psi on March 28, 2021, 10:31:51 PM
For batting and fielding, do people find contact lenses any good? I'm trying a new set and I reckon my vision is a bit blurred before it focuses properly. Maybe not great for facing fast balls.

Also, which helmets work well with glasses? Tried on some at a shop but Masuri were too small and awkward to get the glasses on with. Would like a decent quality lightweight with titanium grill. I have large head size.

I used a Kookaburra for a couple of years with my glasses, they're reasonably large frames and never had any problems. Glasses on first with a sports strap to keep them in place, then helmet on top.

Have had no issues with my masuri os2. I put the lid on first, then slide in the glasses between the peak and grill. That said, I prefer contacts - if it’s blurry, then perhaps you need better fitting contacts. I had to try a couple of different ones before the optometrist got it right.

Contact lenses are the way to go. Just make sure you don’t put them in immediately before batting.

I usually wear glasses, but on a cricket day I’ll wear lenses all day and keep them lubricated with Hycosan Extra.

If anything, Masuri provide more space they the grill, much better for glasses users, like me. It could be that you need a bigger size helmet, or your glasses frame is too big. I've been putting it in with glasses on and it's easy enough.
If I could, I would use lenses..

Always wear contacts due to breaking glasses at hockey when younger

If contacts are correcting a stigma or things like that then can take 10 mins to settle, mine take about 5 mins as I have a stigma then vision fine

I always wear contacts when playing or netting. I find my glasses steam up with a helmet on and I just feel safer in contacts in the field. I'll put mine in before leaving the house, so all fine by the time I'm playing.

Thanks, very helpful. I will carry on with lenses and see if I can get used to them.

Anyone tried playing in multi-focal contact  lenses?   Will be my first season - currently when wearing them during the day they take a very short time to adjust from reading to distance....might be an issue when batting!  Will have nets with multifocal and also with my standard short sighted lenses.

Any experience of this?

Lenses for me, never had any issues. I wear lenses for all sport but I guess it is very prescription specific whether you would be better off with lenses or glasses.

I tried wearing glasses a couple of times in nets, struggled with depth persception so bit the bullet and had them lasered 4 weeks ago!  Hopefully all is good when nets start in a week or so time!

Tried my lenses at 1st nets yesterday. They worked fine so I will carry on with them. Left eye is a reading lens, right eye for long distance. But seemed to work, so...

Big advantage with contacts is you can wear sunglasses too. I've tried prescription ones and couldn't get on with them. If the sun goes in you want to take them off, then you can't see properly.

you have “astigmatism” matey not a stigma.
