Title: Balls for nets, sub £10
Post by: Jimbo on April 22, 2021, 07:43:03 PM
As in the title, would appreciate any recommendations of where I could source roughly 20 senior sized cricket balls for net practice.

Don't need to be great quality but want to avoid bat breakers, limited to a budget of approx £10 per ball.

If anyone's got a link to balls that fit the bill that would be great, cheers.

Kookaburra County League is a decent ball for the price. It’s about £11-12 per ball, but if you find a site offering a newsletter sign-up discount (such as Martin Berrill Sports) then you can knock 10% off that price.

These are great. Perfect for our outdoor nets in batting cage. No bat damage.

Used these for practice https://newbery.co.uk/collections/balls/products/county-cricket-ball-v2 (https://newbery.co.uk/collections/balls/products/county-cricket-ball-v2)  we have to buy Newbery balls for our junior leagues (incl U14 with senior ball)

We have used these in the past, when we were short of balls.

I believe a few we even used in inter club games.

It's the club that needs them, not me!

Umm, then get them to triple their league ball order 😂

Really is the cheapest way to get decent balls and not pay OTT retail prices

League balls would be more expensive than 5 different options that people have helpfully suggested.

They go under the name of Oxbridge cricket balls.

Yes, been impressed by the Tiflex/Oxbridge seconds that you can find on eBay. The seam holds up really well.

No but definitely a bat breaker!

Please use a league ball only, ask your captain for an old spare I'm sure they can help.

As a total novice in buying balls, what is it about these balls that make them a definate bat breaker. Is there some kind of certification to look out for that makes them a "league" ball?

I want to buy my son some new balls for nets.

Cheers

dukes and readers are the best UK balls - i expect most UK leagues use those - SG and Kookaburra make good balls but mostly on the overseas market - Oxbridge balls aren't bad - here are some decent balls that may fit a budget:

Thanks to everyone that replied. I'd actually seen those before, and have bitten the bullet and bought half a dozen.

However my question was a little broader than that- how can I tell which are good/bad ones before purchase? They all look the same to me! One poster definitively stated that one set of balls was poor- was this from experience of using them, or are there things to look for- good or bad? There was also a reference to "league" balls.
