For years I’ve always had a dodgy achilles in my left foot. I’ve always tried to manage it the best I can. I’ve seen doctors and physios, had treatment and the last specialist said I needed a cortisone injection but didn’t want to give it me due to the potential risks it offered.
I’m constantly having to ice after exercise, but would love to know if anybody has had a similar issue and how they overcome it? Whenever I exercise it swells up massively and I struggle to walk, the first 2 games this season have left me in agony.
Cheers in advance

See if you can get a reply from Steffan Jones or Ross Dewar on Instagram as they seem to be two of the better fast bowling coaches and have talked about this in the past. I'm sure I've seen them post drills on Insta about strengthening ankles etc.
I have struggled with my left achillies since 2010 - I'm sure carrying quite a few extra pounds doesn't help me!

Assume tried basics like trying different styles of footwear? back in the day when I used to attempt to charge in I suffered badly but found a shoe change made some difference

As someone who has ruptured his achillies and been operated on, all I can say is asking the Internet for help probably isn't your best bet.
Going to a sports/cricket focused physio might be a better option for management of the issue.

The only reason I mentioned Steffan Jones in particular is that I asked him once and he was decent enough to advise. Just I deleted the reply. From what I've seen, he seems one of few people combining bowling coaching with strength training, including how to ensure all your tendons are firing properly and training potentially weak areas, such as the achilies.

I visited a physio that was recommended to me about a very tight calf muscle. We had about 5-6 sessions and he said, not to worry, it's going to get worse before it would get better. I was going to be in the neighbourhood of my old physio so I made an appointment with him. After a quick check he said he wasn't going to try anything because he didn't trust it so sent me for a scan. Sure enough, a slight tear in my achillies heel.
Surprisingly, the treatment involved power training. Most notably lifting kettle bells up and down steps.

Ultrasound at Warwick Hospital Redders. Fixed mine in 2 weeks.
I was in a pretty bad state my first full season at Ashorne and icing, stretching didn't work. I was in agony playing by mid season. Once you have a muscle tear and scar tissue builds its very difficult to get it right. Ultrasound combined with some basic stretching sorted it. The ultrasound removes the scar tissue and the stretching will get it back to decent flexibility.

The power training is why I mentioned Steffan Jones - he posts drills about contact/landing and loading of the ankle/achillies and how to strengthen that area of the leg.

Good thread this, coming to end of season and my left achilles is struggling. Icing etc to get me through but will look at the off season to rest and then look to strengthen the area.
Can add achilles to calves and shin splints...
