Title: Covers?
Post by: LockieEP on May 08, 2021, 11:52:53 AM
So we are one of a few local clubs here that are yet to invest in covers.....club view has been a b it old fashioned on this and as ground in centre of village some concerns over vandalism. Whats your experience of them? Most local games at grounds with covers are on today and our game is off!

TBH the wheeled on covers are likely to be out of our budget so are the pull on modern version of tarpaulins worth the hassle and can they be removed without depositing the collected water everywhere!

We have both roll ons and sheet covers, and have never had any issue with vandalism. With that said, our game is still off today. There is only so much that can be done with weather like this.

I’d say a sheet cover is better than no cover, but I’d advise investing in a hessian Mat that goes under the sheet to stop excess sweating and therefore reducing the point of covers.

We have brand new roll on covers and we are still off today, as Leachy says sometimes there is only so much you can do.

The biggest thing for me with sheet covers is the fact that it takes multiple people to put them on and a lot of people to talk them off. So if you are going to invest in sheets lots of people must be able to get to the ground to get them on and off.

We have a big tarpaulin that cost about 100 quid. It has saved dozens of games since we bought it a few years ago, just by putting it on either the night before or during the game if there's a sudden heavy shower.

We had our roll ons and also side sheeted them last night but our game was still off today so there's no guarantee that having covers will ensure a game is on with prolonged heavy rainfall.

With flat sheets, you need to have a method (normally a Bowdry or something similar) of removing most of the excess water before moving. If you fold them a certain way, they can be towed off with some water still on them and then this can be discarded on the outfield but you need to be careful with this (depends on the quality of your sheet)

A few local clubs have managed to source grant funding for these. I am sure our club contribution was around 1k for a new set of roll on covers. 75 percent grant funded iirc

What a stunning ground

It really is!

@Maverick79 has worked wonders, good wicket, quick outfield, feel very lucky to call it home!
