What are the reasons for dropped catches? Especially by the wicket keepers. It's interesting to know how fielders and keepers go through, going for a catch...
-
'Not being that good at cricket' usually. Add to that 'not practicing enough'. Does this really need a topic?
-
Not liking the bowler ;)

Hahaha, looks like you are dropping them!

Not anticipating every single ball to come to you

At least you couldn't ignore 👍
What I've seen is that some catch easier than others.
I've seen keepers grabbing everything but when a comes they struggle to hold on seemingly easy ones.
Why does this happen often enough to make one think?
-
Last Saturday's match, our keeper caught every single ball, but dropped easy catch off me and then later a more crucial catch off a medium pacer, near the end of the match! Which can't be called a difficult catch.
-
Why do you bowl wides, no balls, full tosses, long hops? Unlike the guy dropping the catch (who has to react), you have complete control when you bowl… so why do you do it?

You should have compared catching with batting! That makes more sense!
-
Nothing makes sense here.

why do you bowl balls that go for runs and don't bowl, trap LBW or nick off a batsmen every ball? same reason people drop catches, miss the ball, spoon it in the air... WE ARE ALL variations of CRAP.

Pressure and not wanting to let your team mates down. Practice plays a part (of course) but it is a pressure situation when you know everyone is watching you and seeing if you make a mistake.
-
i love bowlers who are like this - they make fielding/keeping a joy - they get annoyed at bad fielding, moaning that people miss field and drop catches - but heaven forbid a fielder saying something about their (No Swearing Please) bowling when they get hit for six
-
esp when said bowler plays a really low standard and blames his crap figures on the fielders - no mate you play this standard because you cant bowl (and can't bat) - not because your fielders/keeper can't catch - and by the way have you ever dropped a catch????
you sound like a great teammate - no wonder you are not being picked by some of the 100 clubs you try to get a game for

Why do you drop catches?? If you say you don't then you're more full of crap than I originally thought!!!

@JTtaylor145,
Very true!

Yes I've dropped catches in Saturdays game as well as Sundays, and I think I know why they're dropped,
I'm not saying no one should be dropping a catch but what the reason could be,
For me, for example, at square leg, I thought the ball was travelling faster than it was actually!
-
Why don’t you flip the question- why SHOULDNT people drop catches? You’re hard wired to dodge or deflect a rock like object flung towards you…
-
Wicket keeping is much easier when the ball travels in a straight(ish) line to you If you’re stood back. Once you add in a deviation to that straight line and change the angle it becomes more difficult.
Fielding wise there was an interesting bit by Nasser the other week where he said square leg bad point are tricky as u haven’t got the depth perception of how quickly it’s coming as @AJ2014 mentioned with his issue.
Everyone will have shelled a catch at some point, even the great fielders like Collingwood/Jonty. A lapse in concentration taking your eye off the ball is usually the problem where you don’t coordinate your hands to take it.

But have you dropped catches on Friday games too?

So like most of the explanations suggested so far, it boils down to "the fielder wasn't good enough"? Think pretty much any cricketer could have told you that particular pearl of wisdom...
-
captains last week, fielders this week, whats next week? the groundsman? umpires? the opposition just being better than you?

I think CustomBats should have a Comedy section for threads like these...maybe make @AJ2014 its moderator as well :D

First time in 10 years on here I’ve used the ignore button. Well played sir!

List of future topics by our friend..?
Why do batsmen get bowled - don’t they have a bat in hand?
Why do umpires give bad decisions?
Why is it Bennifer instead of Jenniben?
How do we know the Earth is not flat?
Did 5G create covid?

I'll leave them for you, honestly!

Why is it Bennifer instead of Jenniben?
Look that one's too serious to joke with.

Did 5G create covid?
i first read this as 'Did SG create covid?' :D :D :D
they do some great kit, but that might be a step to far for their R&D department :D :D :D

Having read the original post it got me thinking...
Why doesn't James Anderson take a wicket every ball he bowls?
He's taken over 600 test wickets, so clearly knows how to get people out. Why doesn't he just bowl one of those wicket taking deliveries every time?
-
Why is it Bennifer instead of Jenniben?
Surely because Ben is at the start of his name. If he was known as Benjamin (rather than just Ben) then they could be called Jenjamin.
Now, what does this forum *really* think about climate change?
