Hi everyone I'm a County opening batsman/ wicketkeeper and am looking for new thigh pads and didn't know whether to go for remfry or Stretton fox what do you think
-
Hasn't your sponsor given you a thigh pad if not you must demand one
-
No it's only u15s
-
Aero P2s ;)
Having had P1s and then P2s and looked elsewhere.. I keep coming back to P2s...
Although I would love to try made to ,measure remfrys... just not worth it for level I play ...
-
Have to agree with Yorkershire, you’ll only grow out of what ever you pick now. Wait and splash the cash when you are full size.
-
I've tried the p1s and p2s but really hurt on impact facing 80mph
-
Is George even still doing the custom ones?

Jason Roy used P2s for at least a fair while, sure you didn't just cop an awkward one?
I'd agree with what folk are saying, if you can't get thigh pads through a sponsor then Aeros are a good reasonable budget option rather than splashing for customs you'll age out of.
If money isn't an issue then you won't go far wrong with either option, the likes of Kohli or Smith don't use crap kit.

I couldn't get on with my Strettons, just didn't feel right for me. Currently using Remfry's and cannot fault them.
Saying that I've used the off the shelf brands (Kook, GN etc) combo thigh pads before and were happy with them and I sometimes face some pretty fast bowling.
-
I used P2s growing up and they were the best combination of price and protection possible, above and beyond the speeds you were discussing. Are you sure that Remfry/Strettons are actually going to be better than what you already have?
Maybe you just got a really unlucky blow, but generally speaking getting hit should sting a tiny bit so you improve your technique 😂
-
I have both the old school Strettons and Remfrys. I switch between the two depending on my mood which isn't very scientific but it works for me.
I used to wear P1's before and I get the extra hip protection feels safer but recently I picked up a pair of P2's and I couldn't get over the bulk of them. How quickly we move on.
My guess is at the time there wasn't much of a decent choice out there. Now when I see what is on somewhere like onlinestockist and what they have to offer is tempting. Not only the BAS gear but also the others on there. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy I paid the extra but there are cheaper alternatives out there.

You need to work out what is most comfortable for you.
Pros use a whole load of different models.
If you like the 2 in 1 sets then you have the P1s, the moonwalkrs or SG ones. There are a number of firms bringing out pads like that.
If you want the independent thigh and inner, then go to a retailer and see what fits.
Personally I think the new GN thigh pads are great and more than good enough quality. Ali Cook has used them for years so the protection must be good enough.
Loads of pros use Remfry, but they are super expensive. Steve Smith went and bought the Stretton Fox's from a store and likes them.
Ultimately fit is your friend. If they fit right they will protect you.
I have just got my boys some SS made VKS thigh pads and they seem to do a job nicely.
-
This is my 2 cents and others will disagree. If comfort is your #1 priority then go down the Remfry route, if protection is the main concern then Stretton Fox. But it's marginal. There are other brands you may wish to consider especially if price is a factor.

That's interesting. Was it against Bola or human bowlers?
I used P1s when facing Bola and I thought the protection was adequate.

It was against bowlers at Warwickshire
-
In my opinion Remfrys are far superior to Strettons.
Any links to some of your stats @FraserJames123? Be great to see!

I see. Well, for the brands you mentioned, try before you buy as their prices are extremely high. Personally, I found Aero P1 adequate against high speed Bola and human bowlers.
-
I’m willing to pay the price if it saves my legs!

What’s your reasoning to your descision?

I’ve also posted a poll for everyone to vote on!
-
So us the overall view Stretton fox for protection, remfry for comfort?

When you consider the old Stretton's were about as custom as you can get, then that seems strange if Remfrys beat them for comfort.
I known I was overwhelmed when it came to SF options. Maybe giving too many options to people, compared to someone narrowing down the chances to get it wrong plays a part.
-
I couldn't make the SFs work for me. I understand the concept of being able to mould them to your body shape, but it just doesn't work as they don't stay in the shape you mould them to. As a result they felt uncomfortable and moved around a lot. The inner thigh pad was particularly poor for moving around. The times I netted in them, I was thinking more about the pads moving around than concentrating on the ball
-
Is George still doing custom sets?
You need to find out the answer to this otherwise your overall question is a moot one, unless you are a very very tall 14 year old because the new SF sets only go down to a small, which I have and they will be far far too big for you.
-
Yes I've asked him and he's still doing the fully custom sets!
-
I wouldn't be buying expensive thigh pads until you stop growing if I were you.
Buy the off the shelf products for now.
