Any makers/repairers experimented with these?
I’ve slowly worked my way towards something pretty good but always keen to learn together and share learnings.

Here are some of my attempts, first one was so easy to work with, but fast too hard and shattered with the first strike from a mallet. Second and third goes we’re way better toe guards, but their softness meant shaping them was a ball ache.

Hey mate, PU is what is used on a fair few up and coming bat makers bats (WCW, Scott, Owens, etc as far as I can tell) I've also played around with it too, found one that had 95 shore hardness, and was still very flexible - very good product. Ball ache for me was the setting time, but other than that, I can't fault them.
-
I used 85, have ordered some 95 to see the difference.
My biggest issue has been getting them to stand at the right angle to get it to set fairly straight.
-
My Keeley has a PU toeguard - much prefer it to the rubber. It's survived some meaty hand jarring Yorkers so far.
-
What sort of weight are the PU toeguards compared to Rubber? With the few I've seen/felt I much prefer them to rubber.
-
I add around 0.8oz of Pu, but I’d guess somewhere between a third and a half of that gets removed when you start shaping it and sanding.

I'm tipping that's a typo from @Kulli? I set around 16g (just over half oz) but then this obviously reduces when finishing. So in the end it probably adds less than a 1/4 of an oz. Setting one this morning so will confirm. Much better than std toe guards imo, as they stay on and mine didn't move for a full season last year. If fitted correctly thei don't just peel off and I could have left it on but put a new one on when i refurbed my bat ready for this season. I tap my bat a lot and it wears incredibly well, looks better and there are are no gaps for water to penetrate. They're obviously flexible too, so no downsides at all for me.
-
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is this material? Does anyone have a link to where one can buy it? How exactly do you guys work with this to fit the toe guard?
-
Just done a toe guard and it added less than a 1/4 of an oz.

One of the more confusing myths floating around that one. 'Taking the toe with it'?!

He's talking about epoxy. What i use (and what others have discussed) isn't epoxy and as stated above is flexible.

I'm a big fan of this style of toe guard. Hate the traditional ones but these don't hide any damage to the toe in the same way, keep water and mud out better and they're lighter. What's not to like?

Hi,
I have always used Shoe goo and new to this thread. Looks interesting. Can anyone help me with the steps to apply PU toe guard?
Is this in a gel form to apply or something different?
-
Comes in two parts. Measure out and mix them. Put tape round the toe to create a mould to pour into. Let it set overnight, then cut/sand to shape.
-
Thank you!! I found this one online (from Australia), but mostly available in large quantities.. trying to find small quantity to attempt a bat.

I'm not sure if this is what the professional batmakers use, but this is what I've used a few times on my bats. I chose white, but you can get other colours.
It's really easy to use - equal measures of both parts, pour into your mould (I use tape around the toe), and let it set. But you do need to work fairly quickly as it sets after about 5-10 minutes. I just sand it down to the right shape afterwards, which is really easy, and it ends up with a smooth finish.

95 is the hardness, you could use a few up or down depending on what you find easiest to work with.

Can we use this?
