Title: Strange find today....
Post by: jjelricksmith on June 19, 2022, 10:33:45 AM
So I've been using my current main bat now for 5 years, its finally dying with full delamination etc so purchased a WCW Orca (amazing bat, would highly recommend) however straight away noticed it looked massively different in profile to my current bat, felt different tapping it etc. Now this is where it got a bit funky...

Got out the old trusty tape measure to find I'd been sold a HARROW instead of a mens bat and for the last 5 years have been playing with a bat thats barely over 4 inches wide. Definitely not even the 4 1/6 inches for a harrow. Absolutely hilarious, how could I not notice I'd been using a harrow for that long! Not going to name and shame the bat maker as it was probably an honest mistake and 5 years later I should have noticed, but it did cheer me up yesterday on a wet windy draw having nicked off to slip early. Who knows that extra 1/4 of an inch the edge might have gone to second slip and not first.

If you've had it five years, could you maybe have lost a bit of width from multiple refurbs?

Pics of the WCW please!!! Also, what width is the Orca out of curiosity?

Yeah i thought this, until the total bat length matched a harrow as well. Had it refurbed twice in 5 years. Mostly I just take a sheet off and slap a new one on.

On the plus side, it means you were able to do just fine with a harrow bat, so you can actually considering using Harrow bats in future. Costs less, weighs less, can swing freely.

Can I ask how tall you are? I have used harrows in the past because I prefer the bat speed I get when compared to a short handle, which in certain circumstances I need. But I am about 6ft 2in and I think it does probably look a bit stupid, but if it's comfortable, then why not? Like you found, most don't even notice because they assume you're using a short handle. Not to mention the fact it saves you a few quid...
