Title: ENG vs SA ODI's
Post by: FattusCattus on July 19, 2022, 08:30:18 AM
So another is upon us! With all the toing and froing, any idea of what our best XI might be for today?

I assume:

Roy
Butler
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Livingstone
Mo
Willey
Rashid
Carse
Topley

Wonder if Potts might get in for Carse, and (I know I'll get shot down for this) I'd like to see Salty in for Root and Root playing less 50 over stuff - but that's probably ab unpopular opinion!

Salt is quality, but leaves them without a natural accumulator surely? 50 over game I'd always want someone who just ticks it over in amongst the big hitters.

With Rash back we are much stronger and Stokes retiring there is a spot becoming available.

Personally with the WC just a year away I would like to see Root play all games, he is as good as it gets to control the game.

Salt maybe for Stokes long term presuming Livingstone stays in

1 Jason Roy, 2 Jonny Bairstow, 3 Joe Root, 4 Ben Stokes, 5 Jos Buttler (capt/wk), 6 Moeen Ali, 7 Liam Livingstone, 8 Sam Curran, 9 Adil Rashid, 10 Brydon Carse, 11 Matthew Potts

Well, I wouldn't have called that line-up - seems a little short on seam experience! 30 overs of spin maybe?

Should be Brook rather than Salt, he's just a different class of player.

It could well be he is in the radar of England. Must of been close to a test call early summer but they stuck with Pope….

We’ve seen enough cricket to know you cannot judge a player just by averages alone, I’ve just looked up Brook…they are nothing great.
What’s so special about this guy?

He is only 23, so maybe a little early to be taking averages.

What’s so special about this guy?

When he played regularly at Yorkshire I used to tell people that every time YJB batted, it looked like he had rolled out his own private pitch.

Brook is in the same vein, and in the last 18 months he has added great pacing of his innings to all the shots in the world.  How good? Facing Simon Harmer at Chelmsford, he got off the mark by melting him into the crowd.

I wouldnt give the average to much thought. He started at 18, and for two years was miscast as an opening bat.

It surely isn't hard to sand out that little engraving. It has got to be done on purpose, same with SG and their "Unpar" engraving on the side.

On purpose? Really? What's the end goal?

Just don’t think they really care of think people will notice. Let’s be honest apart from the few hundred forum members if it’s even that high these days who else would care?

Advertisement, curiosity. It is probably too small for most people to notice, I just wonder why they don't sand it out to begin with.

thought i spotted some engraved edges in the england team recently, broad was one and salt also. question is, whos bats are they swapping with? yjb, ali or malan?

Potentially county or franchise teammates as well. Think Livingstone said he used one of Riyan Parag's bats he got at the IPL for ages.

Not ODI's but the Lions warm-up game.

Sibley chugging along, but Lawrence seems in a bit of a hurry!  Something to prove perhaps?

prerequisite to make the test batting line up these days isn't it. Strike rate up.
