Title: Professionals spotted using Butterfly Willow
Post by: 19reading87 on December 05, 2022, 02:59:05 PM
Firstly, I could have sworn there was a topic around something like this before, but I could not find it.

Similar to the thread we had about Pros spotted using Stretton Fox protective gear -  I thought it would be good to have similar with Pros using Butterfly bats.

Feel free to add away.... (or link me to the thread actually about this)

I am more worried about the yellow grips, they need to be white!

Interesting that WCW are giving out butterflies to sponsored players, do they actually sell butterfly grades in their retail offering?

Yes a lot of their 5 star bats are butterfly willow

£350 for butterfly bats, wow

At the end of the day pro players will score runs with any grade, grade has no impact on performance by and large and if the kit is free to them i doubt they are going to mind especially if like in the the case of Dom Bess he isn’t going to be promoting on the international stage any time soon

Can't say I'll be queuing up to pay £300+ for a butterfly when I get one custom made for circa £200...

Yeah it does seem very very steep, I purchased an LE orca last year. Have been considering buying a 5 star Orca just to use in friendlies/ and nets when the balls are often concrete but £350 is about £100 too much for me.

These might be his net bats and a way to promote WCW butterfly willow.

Just noticed they're all stickered up as Chaos which is the top range no? But butterfly willow surely isn't going to set someone back £700 a stick.

Wouldn’t surprise me, you seen some of the clefts M&H chuck out for £700 a pop. Well it is “Pro” willow remember surely everyone wants to pay loads more because it’s labelled as pro or a good looking G1 vs a standard G1

That or it's the Chaos shape, or Bess liked the stickers better or that's what they've agreed he "uses" 😉

Looks like WCW are giving all the pros butterfly then. Good marketing that but don't think the general WCW buyer is going to know.

I'm not too sure how I feel about £350 willow being stickered up as the £700 model. Surely screams false advertising as the average Joe wanting Will Smeed's bat will only see the £700 bat there.

Very decent bats, and the owner Luke is great to deal with. Sponsors one of the ex Scotland players at a club near me who has their whole junior section using them.

Not sure he is using it in the test match, but GM have given Ben Duckett a butterfly here for the promo pics...

Pretty sure he was using that or at least another bat with very similar butterfly markings on yesterday. Just can't find a picture of it, or a screengrab from the highlights.

@Jimbo which Scotland player is that, just interested as I'm in Scotland. Where are you located, is this an English or Scottish club you refer to?

Oli Hairs at Watsonians in Edinburgh mate. My club's junior play them pretty regularly and there's always a pile of TCL bats kicking about during the game.

Ah yeah, seem him before, good hitter! I play for Dundee High School FP Cricket Club, we were previously playing National League a few year ago but have gone through a tougher patch of late with work/family/retirement issues in the squad. Building up again nicely via the youth section now, but will take a few years! Where do you play?

Terrifyingly massive hitter more like! Never been through to any of the Dundee clubs, one to add to the list of Scottish cricket grounds to go see at some point. Played at Murrayfield for 7 years now.
