Title: Favourite ever bat
Post by: SOULMAN1012 on January 18, 2023, 04:20:35 PM
So I finally last week managed to get my hands on what for me is probably my favourite ever bat model released. The Newbery GT with the Cadbury purple stickers. Now I will admit a large reason for this is the stickers, iv always been a fan or the Newbery models from this time period including the Mjolner with the black Matt and yellow grip combo. Also though the high middle with a huge driving area and flat face just make this my favourite ever bat release.

So this one is the Player model and still hand the original retailers sticker wrapped round the grip with the original price of £204.99 ( How things have changed) for its age which I think this was released in 2011 it’s in superb condition with no damage ir even little sinks in the bat at all. Stickers are immaculate just a shame the original grip is looking worn but that’s to be expected. Its initial response is pretty decent but it’s debatable how often if at this will be used as iv started building a little collection of my favourite bats. Next on the list will be a 90’s V500 and V600 as loved watching Mark Butcher and Alec Stewart use them back in the day as well as a GN Maverick always loved the black & Orange combo.

Anyway for those that liked this model here are a few pics

That is amazing. I can't believe the condition that bat is in.
That was a really popular shape back when Newbery was Newbery...

When Newbery was Newbery is very true, really lost their way in my view these days. Not sure who this was made by back then if TK was still involved or if this was when they first started getting made abroad

I had a lovely GT Players from Asad. It went great until the handle snapped and took the splice / shoulders with it.

Unsurprisingly, I also have a very soft spot for the GM Neon. Another great shape not a million miles away from the GT.

That's a beauty - got a shot from the toe up? Didn't realise they made the GTs with flat faces, the ones I have here are rounded, so I'm guessing it was a slight change when they got the Cadbury range in.

@SOULMAN1012 your post just shows how much Newbery really has gone to pot.

That's a proper classy bat that. I had an amazing Mjolner when I was in my youth.

I think this may have been a re released version of the gt and is a bit more modern rather than one of the earlier ones with a curved face.

My Helios Atlas is literally this bat minus the newbery stickers. Even made by TK.

Best bath and shape I’ve ever had. Scored a lot of runs with it

Showing my age here, but my mid 90s Mjolnir was just amazing. I had a V500 before, which I thought was good, but the Newbery was just on another level. Dug it out of my parents' loft a couple of years ago, and remembered what a state it was in.

Great original post which got me thinking. I've had many good bats but my all time favourite was the GM Trott/ Smith style bat. It became the B3 1271. Amazing bat and very forgiving for amateur cricketers.

Had quite a number of B3 when I worked for them the Tonto bats were great but the Kalimaar was the oddest yet best bat I have had  :D

@procricket I remember that Private Bin. It was like Trigger’s broom by the end…
