Recently picked up a stunning h4l butterfly (not directly). Never seen a h4l bat in the flesh & they don’t disappoint. Sadly to heavy for me but absolutely stunning. I can’t believe that with the current prices of bats being what they are butterflies are sub £200.

Yip. Certainly was :D Tried to win yesterday’s GN. Much more my weight.

Wow, amazing grains on that. A few companies would just stick some stickers on the stain and sell it as a grade 1

Lovely looking bat that and a cracking players profile 👌

Does that mean you're selling it?

Rather trading it for something of similar quality in 2.8lb

To me, that’s a bat with a pin knot rather than a butterfly. Unless I knew beforehand I think that would irk me somewhat.

How irked can one be by a pin knot?

It's got both hasn't it?

Quotes about the bat:
An absolutely stunning butterfly bat from Kent batmakers Hell4Leather. Known for their big and light bats, they are one of the very limited batmakers to have made it onto our masterlist. Having access to their own willow stocks, this gorgeous cleft with just a hint of butterfly stain on the face was one we were really excited to get in
If you dreamt up a butterfly unicorn of a bat, it’d probably look a little something like this.
If it wasn't a butterfly, what grade would a bat with a visible pin knot on the face be? Don't get me wrong, I buy on performance, happy to get a cheaper price for a visual imperfection.

I wouldn't imagine that tiny pin knot up there would be enough to deter most manufacturers from grading that as a top grade. It's out of the hitting zone, and bang in line with a grain, but is 11 grained, a fairly light cleft and all sapwood.

Is this some form of wierd hypothetical discussion going on here?

Not from me. i just didn't agree with the title that it was a "Stunning Butterfly"

Just because of the pin knot? It does still have a butterfly on it, and the playing area is stunning IMO. Believe it or not, there was a video where Andrew Kember addressed pin knots - better on the face than through the edge seems to be his belief. The thought behind it is the pin knot might travel straight through and make the bat too hard across the face, while if it's small and on the face and out of the playing area, chances are it's shallow. It makes sense if you think about how branches grow, and how the clefts are cut out. Ones as tiny as this that don't really show any signs at the back of the bat aren't much to worry about I wouldn't imagine, and does it really affect the bat enough aesthetically to warrant downgrading? Subjective, but to me that's absolutely stunning, and the beauty of a natural product

It's a top grade butterfly player grade bat, only it's too heavy for most liking.
It's not a knot!

It does also have a pin knot, even if it's still stunning for that.

Looks absolutely terrible, the pin knot makes it only slightly above vellum. I will give you ten great British pounds for it.
That is stunning by every stretch of the word, from my experience those bats with a hint of butterfly in them absolutely fly. It’s a shame it’s a bit heavy for you but a great win for you and well done for supporting a fantastic cause.
