So here is my Salix Acid that arrived yesterday and first impressions are pretty impressive. So this is a G3 and looks wise it’s pretty decent. Always found Salix grading os fairly generous, grains are nice and straight and pretty even, small little mark towards the RH inside edge but it right on the edge .
Profile is convex, totally full shape no concaving at all. Weight is 2lb 9oz and it’s fairly large without being massive, edges are 35mm at largest point, handle is a medium thick semi oval handle which aids the pretty impressive pick up which again is something I feel Salix get right more often than not with there shapes and bats.
Now the two points that make for me Salix and AJK the best in the business. This finish is mirror shine good almost see my reflection and the response is top notch. Tapping an old ball has a real crisp snap sound and as and when it’s played in will be really good.
So price wise this is £297.50 direct from Salix or The Bat Guy which for G3 is towards the high side and £25 cheaper than the Salix branding Select which is the G3 offerings. But I guess price is subjective to what people feel is value. Personally I like the branding is brash without being to offensive and for me was just a little treat to myself

Looks a cracker
-
That’s stunning!
-
The wood is lovely, but sorry those stickers are dreadful imo.
Grains look lovely for a ‘3’, finishing as stunning as usual for a ‘Salix’.
-
Very nice bat, but yeah not a fan of those stickers, especially compared to how nice Salix branding is.
-
Not for me, but can’t knock a bat with some chemical bantz in the branding!

And I guess that’s part of the thinking. If you have 2 elegant, classic branded bats people would call them samey etc, so make them a bit Marmite, HitsHard was the same. Look much better in the flesh and the attention to detail is very good, even the back sticker that has the chemical symbol for Fluro

Yeah that's fair, it's certainly a very different vibe. Shape is still very nice, although that price tag, ouch.

And again pride I guess is subjective to opinion
Keeley G3 £360 website on sale at £306 so more expensive
WCW 5 Star don’t seem to state a grade but intro is £350 “ 5 Star willow comes with a few more blemishes and imperfections” so grade 3 to me
Woodstock Silver £350
So these are the cheapest of these brands.
The newer less established and experienced bat makers ( myself included) do sit below this so I guess the conversation of price vs Value is valid depending on your point of view.

Whilst I agree with most of what you said, and the bat looks a cracker, the issue I would have is paying £300 for a grade 3 SS, when you can get the same for £150 with TON branding.
That aside, the bat does look lovely.

I'd say it's not quite the same thing, you have a definite difference in the style/quality of the finishing elements, such as the round faced pressing, the shaping, the finishing etc which gives it that Salix chef's kiss. Will it perform any better? Probably not - but you're paying for that Salix touch. Definitely quite pricey, but you won't be getting the same thing from SS - the extra premium is the extra touch from Salix. Whether its justified or not is up to the customer.
(Not slagging off SS at all, think their bats are awesome)
@SOULMAN1012 - what's the width on it like? Standard 4 1/4 men's?
-
I think I maybe just expected with SS doing a fair chunk of the process that the price would reflect that a bit more as Leachy has alluded to. I've always thought Salix/Keeley pricing was largely justified by the control they have over the whole process and their expertise.
Each to their own though, and if you're getting a bat you really like then that's what matters.

I don’t believe SS do that much really, I believe and I could be wrong SS machine and do an initial press so basically top and tail the cleft but all the hand shaping and sanding is done in the Salix workshop by AJK etc. Thats my understanding anyway

Can't fault this bat and it's branding! It's worth the money!
-
The front branding isn't my bag but looks ok, the back one looks like they wrote down all the ideas they had and then forgot to just pick 1-2 of them.
Bat is likely lovely, but relatively stiff pricing.
-
@SOULMAN1012, are these bats listed on Salix website? Can't seem to find them.

Not yet I think they will be soon. Available from The Bat guy on Instagram or emailing Salix direct at the moment

Could be a sub brand for M&H that one

Cocaine Bats - you'd have to do about twelve lines to pay this much for a CA bat I've restickered in my bedroom.
-
Another example of a Brand CBF people love so try justify the horrible stickers that accompany an actually nice looking G3 bat.
-
I suspect there is already a brand called Speed.

Each to their own I guess, I like the branding by and large.
-
They used to come in handled, shaped and initial press, but without binding. If someone can direct me how to upload photos then I’ve got one here.

These have got to be up there for the worst stickers ever put out by an established brand.

Again each to there own, I personally quite like them and can think of many others that have been a lot worse in my opinion but opinions is what creates conversation
-
Have you had a knock with it yet? Looks good.

Sometimes I look at something and think 'Ok, it's not for me but I guess someone else will like it'. This isn't one of those times! Genuinely could not think of a positive thing to say about them and there's so so much wrong. Would love to know what you think is a lot worse!
Will say the actual bat looks fantastic though. But then it should, it's a £300 Grade 3 :(

For me there are a couple that I just don’t like in terms of branding, style etc but fortunately I don’t go on about it. The price for a G3 is a little on the high side but so are plenty of others across the board, if you don’t like it or don’t think it’s value don’t buy it I guess

Yes had a 40min net the other night with it and it’s very nice performance is superb regardless of what people think of the branding

Amen brother.

Brilliant. Hope it goes well for you. I really like the fact Salix are doing something different.

Man those HitsHard were good bats and good value. Best bats I ever failed to use properly!
