So...I have now watched the clip several times. It makes less and less sense. Lucky to only be out for four games. Really weird thing to do.

Totally agree, god knows what he was thinking. Looks to me like he was warned by umpire when he did it from the other end so to do it again when he is standing there making it totally obvious he shouldn’t be doing it is beyond me. A poor man’s Sam Curran anyway and make of that what you will lol
-
Completely lost his head, for whatever reason. Suspect he may have cost himself quite a bit of money for a moment of stupidity.
-
Probably just wants the festive season off. Smart... :o
-
Yes, completely unacceptable. You respect the umpire at all times, even if you think they're wrong. He definitely deserves what he got and I hope he has the decency to apologise.
-
I just find the whole thing wierd.
Why was the umpire getting in a strop about what he was doing?
Why didn't he just run up next to the wicket instead?
Why did the umpire just stand on the pitch like that?
Why didn't the umpire just go and talk to Tom?
What on earth was Tom doing running at the umpire like that?
The whole thing is nuts.
And I also think a 4 game ban is totally out of proportion.
But Aussies get very self righteous about this stuff.
The whole think is absurd.

Interesting point, @Buzz.
Would this have ended differently from a random county game in the UK? Guess cameras, international player, etc are the factor.
I agree on the weird point - its all just a bit random. Not helped by the reports of swearing that are now coming out.
-
This is the point and if Tom was swearing at the umpire my position on the ban is different...
I still think that the issue is also with the umpire. I can't imagine Venkat, Billy Bowden, Nigel Llong, David Shepherd or Dickie Bird acting like that. Darryl Hair though... 😂
-
It was ridiculous
Curran deserves what he gets for me
Yes umpire could of handled differently and better but it’s in laws you cannot go on cut strip before play, think only captain and coach can under supervision of umpires but correct me wrong
First run through get told off and move away this blows over but he didn’t
2nd run through he ignores umpires instructions then runs at him to get him to forcibly move which is saying to me I don’t respect the umpire and that’s what gets me the most, may be old fashioned in that but that clip shown to youngsters says do what you want and ignore officials

I don't disagree that the umpire could have handled it differently. But at all levels of the game you get umpires who act a bit weirdly, and you have to respect them no matter what. If the umpire is standing in the way, no matter whether that's right or wrong, you don't behave like TC did.

Dispicable behaviour by Curran
Just the total attitude
I think the team put out statement they will support Curran in this time, pathetic
-
Spoilt brat.
-
Absolutely bizarre the whole thing, agree with Buzz largely! Curran should have dealt with it better but why on earth the umpire decided to start causing trouble over nothing is beyond me. Some punishment for Curran seems sensible but the ump should be invited to take a good Christmas holiday too.
-
I’m not sure what the umpire has done wrong here? Clearly tells him he shouldn’t be doing that after the first one, then goes to the other end and clearly tells him he can’t run on the wicket, (just like every other game ever), and then he just runs straight at him.
What do you expect the umpire to do? Run after him and get in his face as he is about to do the second run up?! Feel for the umpire personally.
-
Never watched or played a game where someone hasn't done their run through like that at some point, what's the problem? Nowhere near the playing area.
Sure, maybe today is the day you feel like drilling down on the laws and noone can touch the cut strip whatsoever? Then go talk to him calmly like an umpire would in literally any other situation. Instead the guy just repeatedly escalates the situation like he's an aggro nightclub bouncer or something and the result is a big childish ego clash. Neither of them come out of it well.
-
So are the players at international level (bowlers ) allowed to do that pre game ?

I expect the umpire to calmly call the player over.
Talk to him rationally and explain the regulations.
Standing there like a bouncer was just as threatening as what Tom did.
This isn't saying Tom should have carried on, he should have also have walked over calmly and chatted to the umps.
It is brainless from both in my view.
Standard rule is you alway keep the umpires on side etc, you want the 5050s in your favour
-
I do agree @Buzz that the umpire isn't exactly faultless here. But we play to what the umpire says, regardless of whether we agree or not. I've been hit in the ribs by full tosses which weren't given NB, had my share of appeals turned down and been given caught off the thigh pad. In each instance the umpire was wrong, but you play to what they say. TC should have ceded to what the umpire said, regardless of whether the umpire is being a *insert your favourite insult* or not. If 40,000 of us think the umpire is wrong but the umpire thinks he's right, he's right.

I must be missing something here, it wouldn’t be the first time :)
You can’t run on the pitch before the game, that’s a given. Curran may or may not have spikes on hard to tell, even in flip flops you cannot run on the pitch, that’s what the umpire told him although he knows this already.
He has given the umpire at the end of the incident a mouthful beginning with an F.
He has now got a ban not even in a match but warming up. It’s absolutely brainless.
Please someone correct me and tell me I did not see what I saw :)

The weird thing is in an aggressive sport like rugby
The players would not dare do that to the ref ..
Although in football all goes on ..
Isn’t cricket meant to be a gentleman’s game ?
-
I don't think the rule about not walking on the pitch before the game holds weight any longer. You get off the team on it at some point visualising how they are going to approach the game. The only possible argument Curran's side could have is that he wasn't the first to go on it
No excusing Curran's behaviour though. If you aren't happy about the behaviour of the.umpire, there are proper channels to escalate those concerns
-
Apprently Curran taken it to heart and is worried about character assassination ..
Wasn’t worried about nearly barging into the umpire in that moment and if it wasn’t recorded I’m sure he would not have felt bad after

Couldn’t agree more, not sure why people are jumping to defend Curran so much?
Perhaps some of the forum members also follow a certain County based in south London…
Not going on the pitch half an hour before the start is a pretty common thing at premier league club level never mind even higher, he can clearly be told to tell the umpire to **** off at one point. That for me should be a four match ban alone, that’s what I’d expect at club level.

Bloke a brain drain but bloody clever he can put his feet up at Christmas and the New Year
Guy showed a lack of class towards the officials and game for me and he was told and warned so it on him.
