Title: World Cup T20
Post by: thegowerwaft on May 30, 2024, 09:05:39 PM
So England win at the Oval. On the plane tomorrow. Probably the most boring shirt - I am loving Scotland, Windies and PNG.

England look good but I don't see them making the final.  Set for a fascinating tournament.

PS I hope I am wrong and England win 🤞🏼

Favourite pre-Cup story so far. Uganda forced to change kit just before the tournament starts.

Interesting interview with Athers on Sky:

Loving the hype:

"Long before Australia and England played the first-ever Test in 1877, USA and Canada locked horns in a three-day game in 1844. In that match in New York, Canada came out on top by 23 runs."

I don’t see the obsession to take sports to the USA. We saw it with F1 and it’s a total clown show. Now taking cricket for smooth brained American clowns who don’t even understand cricket.

The absolutely enormous amount they spend on following sport is probably quite a big draw for the commercial side of any sporting body.

Bit of a trend for England with a poor powerplay

Saved by the rain...

Scotland were superb

Hope they go into that Aussie game in St Lucia as a pure knockout game

Would require England to win the next 3 and Scotland to beat Namibia and Oman

It's not unreasonable!

Would have been some chase and not sure they'd have done it. Although posting 90 and England then chasing 109 seems a bit much. Especially with a 3 over powerplay!

Just reading on social media that the weather in Barbados has picked up. Odd end time.

Michael Leask providing more evidence for my theory that he is one of the most underrated T20 impact players in the world. Might not be hyper consistent but he's forever pulling world class moments that win games out of the bag.

Well done USA!

Greatest day in US Cricket history. I hope this tournament would mean more top side teams would want to come play USA here and we get invited to tour.
Lot of these players have day jobs/side jobs - cricket doesnt pay enough here. They dont get to train/practice in great facilities. The grit they've shown today is unbelievable.

Australia outclass the hapless Pommies. Skills pay the bills.
Buttler’s captaincy was pitiful.
There’s some players in the England side that are living off past performances.
Don’t worry though, England will face Oman next. An opposition more on their level…

Grim today.
Should have batted first. This chasing obsession is just not how our team plays. I really don't get it.
After that nothing improved.

Mott and Buttler won't be around as captain and coach after the world cup.

Aussies were firing from the start and had really done their homework. England just looked out of sorts - especially when you see some of the talent left at home and playing in the Blast.

India defend 119 against Pakistan in a low scoring thriller on another terrible pitch in New York.
It’s good bowlers get a chance to show their worth in T20s but having surfaced where it’s nearly impossible to hit boundaries isn’t really what T20 is meant to be.

India beat the Yankees in New York in another low scoring game.
Kohli is a passenger in that Indian side. It’s a joke Jaiswal is sat on the bench.
If the Yankees get through, their bowling will probably be less effective on better pitches in the West Indies.

I'm not Indian so I have no bias. Do people not realise that Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen of all time and probably the greatest short format batsmen of the last 50 years? Let's look at some of England's players before we start to criticise Mr. Kohli. I would rather have Virat than Bairstow, Brook, Jacks, Salt, Butler or Ali. Even Bradman had the odd bad innings. Do me a favour.

Despite it being the usual fishing expedition of a post, I will give him that it's disappointing not to see India finding a place for Jaiswal. Good argument that he is the most exciting young batsman in world cricket right now.

To be fair this whole T20 World Cup has been a bit of a farce and shambles. On the positive a new host nation are through and maybe will take hold a bit in the USA.
Farce - Scheduled and fitted in around the IPL, this is a World Cup and should be the pinnacle of its name suggests the nation is the world champion.
Farce - games scheduled around Indian TV audience.
Farce - India is the only side that knows the venue of its semi final ( assuming they get they) well let’s be honest the ICC will make sure they get there one way or another.
Farce - would have had better luck with weather of scheduled the games in Manchester in April than the USA and Caribbean at stay of rainy season.

Not watched a single game or highlights and don’t think I will just not had any real love for this WC at all

When FIFA decided the 2022 football World Cup would in the winter - all the leagues around world did as they where dictated to.
The ICC granted the IPL this window - therefore the ICC can revoke the ‘IPL window’ for the ICC World T20.
The ICC is weak and pathetic.
It’s not like the IPL has to be played in April-May.

This World Cup sucks ass but a few updates:

South Africa edged England is a tight game.
West Indies pummelled the Yankees.
Would take something freakish for South Africa to miss out on the semifinals.

In the other group India hammered Bangladesh. If Australia beat Afghanistan in the evening game, both Australia and India will make the semifinals with a game to spare - which is against each other.

I dunno man - USA, SA and AFG had their best tournaments ever. Nepal almost beat SA. USA went toe to toe with SA and India.
Scotland almost made it to Super 8. AUS missed semis. Pak/NZ missed Super8;

If SA beats India u have the perfect tournament.

As well as Bairstow, Jordan, Livingston, Ali and Butler for Captain duties

Bairstow once again did nothing all tournament and get bowled through the gate
Chris Jordan is really a superb and world class fielder that’s about it.
Livingston handy that he can bowl 2 styles well but his batting contributions are rare
Ali well unfortunately he just isn’t impactful any more in either department

Time for SA to finally get across the line just a shame it’s been the worst T20 WC ever

People complain about roads for T20 where 200+ scores are achieved easily and the moment challenging pitches are presented they cry about it. To me these pitches were a welcome change from what is being seen all around the world. High time batsmen were challenged to think rather than plant your foot forward and biff thru the lines making bowlers look like human bowling machines.

Shameful to take Hartley for 6 weeks and not play him

Butler needs to step down as skipper

Fail to see what Mott offers?

Is Mo international standard any more?

Feel Jacks a scapegoat and ridiculous to waste his talent at no.3

I feel the real problem is the Buttler/Mott axis and some poor, poor decision making - i.e. underuse of Topley early on - continued use of Wood - poor use of Jacks - poor selection for semi final - Duckett a passenger.

Overall - not really blaming the players, very disappointed at the leaders.

Didn't understand a lot of the decision making, probably time for Mott to make way as he just hasn't made the best of the players available to him. Buttler looks diminished by the captaincy, the same way Root did.

The fact he can bowl a genuine off spinner at 90mph is just different gravy, either going to get you bowled or if you're lucky LBW
