Title: Blue Willow bats
Post by: gihanrat on July 18, 2024, 08:35:47 AM
I've recently come across this type of willow - from what I can gather it is another one of the aesthetically undesirable (relatively!) clefts and seems to be priced slightly lower. Staining due to various chemicals/minerals being taken up by the tree depending on where it has been growing?

My question is, does this type of willow play any different to "unstained" clefts, and are its properties different (eg strength, ping, durability, similar to when comparing butterfly to other grades of EW)?

Simply no it will have no impact at all. There is one maker who pushes them a lot and a bit like butterfly they are lower quality ( looks wise only) so will be cheaper to purchase. Like butterfly price them correctly and you can offer a “value” option vs your top end £600 price point but the margin to the maker is good also.

Buy anything grade wise from a good bat maker and it will be a good bat
