Hi all
Saw an article this morning about the current "World Test XI" team.
Wisden’s 2024 men’s Test XI of the year
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
2, Ben Duckett
3. Kane Williamson
4. Joe Root
5. Harry Brook
6. Kamindu Mendis
7. Jamie Smith (wk)
8. Ravindra Jadeja
9. Gus Atkinson
10. Matt Henry
11. Jasprit Bumrah (c)
No Auusies in there which is a surprise.
Thought I would put it out there.
In my mind, 3, 4, 5, and 11 are the first on my team sheet. Probably add 1 into that too.
Will leav this up for discussion ;)

This is a bit of fun, but prioritises guys who have played lots rather than winning teams.
No Aus and no SA players is a bit ridiculous

Not sure how you fit him in but Bavuma was superb for South Africa every time I saw him last year.
Not sure Jadeja would make my ToTY.

The absence of any South African players is an indication to me of the flaws in the world test championship when you can reach the final without playing some of the leading nations.
The batting looks fair to me but the bowling Bumrah aside is highly questionable

Its difficult, because I can make a logical argument for each of the 11 players listed based on their performances in the last year, and I think there is a big difference between a team selected based on performances over a 12 month period and an actual World XI.
As to the former, I think its a pretty decent selection. You could argue Masood or Markram for Duckett, perhaps Santner (for his performances in the India tour) over Jadeja and Rabada over Henry, but in all cases the selections are broadly credible. Travis Head is horribly unlucky that they have largely gone with batting position.
If we were picking an actual world XI, I doubt Duckett, Smith, Atkinson and Henry would be there.

I don't know at what stats Wisden has selected this team as the World Test Team 2024. Aussies and African players are not the part of it :o Many would think about Pakistani players as well but we all know they don't deserve to be added because they are not playing sensible cricket. But not adding Aussies in this list does not justify the World Test Team ;)
