Title: New bat dilemma
Post by: barry1 on April 02, 2010, 08:33:30 AM
With the season fast approaching I am thinking I need a new bat (I don't really, just want one). The choices I am considering screaming cat pro, laver reserve, custom Saf, custom talisman or millichamp distinction. Would value any opinions as I only have experience of having a laver private bin, which is a gun. So laver may be slight favourite. Could there be other bats to consider?

different bats suit different people, and it depends what you want. There are several bat makers about who will all make a bat that could suit you.

Laver's are great, but you'd have to send it to New Zealand if it needed adjusting at all. Screaming Cat is the same dilemma, except sending it to Australia. At the same time, there's definitely some kudos associated with owning a bat by either bat maker.

Personally I'd try and get the company closest to you and maybe go see them in the flesh.

The last few talisman and SAFs have al looked very good, I would not want a laver/screaming cat just because of the cost of the flights and stuff like that

Bazza....you've certainly come to the right place as your spoiled for choice...apart from the manufacturers you've already mentioned you'll find many more on here who offer a premium product at a very reasonable price. [The latest edition of AOC will testify to that.]

I think the advice Johnny gave should be followed...Get out there and feel as much wood in your hands as is possible then make your decision.

I don't think you could go far wrong with an English custom made, I'm sure you could go and pick your own cleft and specific design plus possibly go and see it being made.

James Laver every single time but got to agree some good bats been made from the forum so a tough choice .

if u need custom made, then Dan Swaine at Chase is another option.
Few of my customers have their bats made and they were very pleased with their bats.

asad good call i have 2 as good as any bat without a doubt

call me a new convert but i think all this custom made is a bit of a load of crap to be honest.

i would now rather go to a place and pick up about 10-20 of the same bat and choose the one i want

Of your list, I have the Scat Pro, Laver Reserve and M&H Distinction. So fairly well positioned to comment. Haven't yet done a head-to-head test and this can be quite subjective but to me the order is Scat, Laver and then M&H. I will be posting this weekend a more detailed review of 5 bats including those 3 in a head-to-head format. In the meantime if you have questions, pls PM me
