Right my season starts in 10 days time with 2 one day friendlies, have been netting now for 12 weeks and this week training will increase to 2 times a week on a tuesday and thursday. Ive never had such a good pre-season, up until last night when I was cleaned bowled (top of off stump) by a brute of a ball . . . .after that I pretty much failed to hit anything (would have even struggled to get the worryingly flabbly Shane Watson away!!).
So was just wondering how everyone's pre-season has been, and if like me you are sick of netting and dying to smoke some balls out in the middle??

ive netted a little but its more of a fitness thing - i dont take a lot from what happens in nets cos ur never gonna get a road like that on grass!
-
Looking forward to getting outside and trying my new bowling action out. Although I'm not looking forward to low slow wickets!!!
-
I can't wait to get outside in some games. A few weeks back I was absolutely smoking the ball in the nets. Unfortunately I seme to have regressed somewhat. Thankfully nets form bears almost no relation to middle performance so I'm not worried.
-
Pre season has been pretty good for me to be fair.
I have been netting twice a week since before christmas and had a stint in melbourne.
Also was in the gym for a good couple of months but have chopped that off as i was feeling weak and picked up a back injury.
Outdoor nets last night were okay, i haven't got out at all in nets which is the goal but i need to get on grass.

I was really enjoying indoor nets - I always do though. However, since school broke up I haven't been able to have a proper bat so it'll be interesting to see how that affects my performance in the first match as soon as we go back.
-
I went to one indoor net and found it boring :L
Our outdoor nets are up now so will be going down there today
-
I haven't done a great deal, but have had a few bowling machine sessions.
Something to think about for those last few indoor nets... these are all about establishing your rhythm - for a batsman and a bowler. For a batsman, it doesn't matter if you don't middle everything (or anything really), what matters is that you are happy with your technique and getting into good positions to play the ball. Is your head still, is that allowing your feet to move, this is what will get you early season runs. If you are smashing the ball to all parts in the indoor nets, the slow tennis ball bounce outside could cause you no end of grief...
For a bowler it is important that you have loosened up your bowling action and have a generated a reliable repeatable action. Most importantly you know what length you want to bowl - early season pitches need bowling on a much fuller length to test dodgy pitches and uncertain batting techniques. If you have been bowling it half way down all winter get used to watching the ball sail over square leg for 6 on the slow spring pitches...
bring on April 18th...

i had my first proper net all year yesterday. got my first game on april 17th to

Our over optimistic aussie skipper has arranged the first pre season game for this saturday! It was snowing last week!
I've been at indoor nets on and off every sunday since Febuary, really don't like batting in them though.
Start outdoor training tomorrow night (snow permitting), then 4 friendlies before the first game on the 1st of may.
Feeling really good about my bowling but my batting has continued it's decline of last year (managed one 50 and nothing else in double figures) so I need to get the finger out there.
-
Been netting since mid October, I have my first outdoor game on Sunday (11th), I then have 1 more academy 1:1 session the Sunday after.
The 2 Sundays after that I have Academy outdoor sessions 10-12. And then a pre season match straight after.
The weekend the season starts I have a home game on the 1st and home on the 2nd, but have the academy seesion before our first sunday league game
-
First game is a friendly this weekend, indoor nets have gone well, I've not been bowled all winter, so I'm in a confident mood, hopefully early season tracks are kind to me, but you never know,
-
Been netting since end of Jan/start of Feb and going to a proper net tomorrow with a bowling machine. Bowling we won't talk about ;) but batting I feel like there's still room for improvement as always. I'm confident I'll reach my targets set batting and win my bet with the 1's captain. Can't wait for the season to start now and hopefully this is the year we finally beat Tom's Sunday team :D
-
I've also been netting since early Jan. One (or possibly two) friendlys this weekend!!! Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems like i've been practicing FOREVER!!!

-
he clearly shaves his chest...no real man does that!
-
haha, modern man... not caveman
-
I bet he shaves his back, sack and crack too! That would make him a homodern man! : ]
-
nothing wrong with that harry :D as long as he stops short of make up and painting his nails then i will still like him!
-
That would lead me to believe that you practice the dark art of shaving where you shouldn't! All in the name of aerodynamics of course! Allows you to turn those 2's into 3's. ; ] is what you'll be telling me next
-
nah, it just makes my donger look bigger :)

1st game a week on Sunday against North London Muslims CC. Looking forward to it!
Imagine the controversy if there was a team called North London White People CC
-
Lol
-
yeah, would be uproar!

Is 'White People' a religion? No.
There are Church football teams all across the country. Are non-Christians complaining. No.
Is Leo jumping on the 'race card' bandwagon. Yes.
Rant Over!
-
No need for a rant mate, it was a joke

Ash do you need a humour transplant? I think everyone knows Leo is having a laugh.
-
I text the geezer from the Muslim club asking for an application form once, but nothing ever arrived!
-
Well you get west indies team etc, i reckon there would be uproar if there was a bristol english people cc team or similar, its a touchy subject and one which can be seen several ways....i know how i feel!
-
Is touchy with some but not with most as is just a name but will agree that if a team was called the English people the pc brigade would be out in force
-
just had my first net.....in the garden with my 9 year old !! Used to practise all the time but just can't get into it now. I think once you have played at a decent level, dropping down a few leagues is very difficult and hard to get motivated.
Any of the older members had this problem ?
-
I have in hockey, but not in Cricket - I have always just loved playing village cricket and league cricket at whatever standard. Playing average hockey with Umpires who don't know what the rules are is shocking.
but under the Fattus rule, I should stop there...!
-
totally agree with the hockey I dropped a couple of standard after I hurt my knee just play for fun now at a lower level but umps are shocking lower down
-
Luckely Buzz we still have neutral umpires in our division which is one thing, but standard of cricket is average. Just try to get other things out of the game, helping the youngsters etc and also not having to leave home at 8.00am and not getting home till 10.00pm helps.
-
Similar situation to you bulldog - Last couple years i have played Uni 1's and every summer went back to play village cricket at a pretty poor standard, but i had a lot of cricket so couldnt complain. Now i have finished uni i am in a difficult situation as i wont get any high standard cricket over the summer - a bit like you, i feel my enthusiasm may be affected by the change in standard.....tis a difficult one.
-
you are still young though Silly aren't you ? why don't you go and test yourself and move to a club playing better cricket. It sounds like you want to and If you don't you will only regret it.
-
You have to decide if you want to push yourself or just be a big fish in a little pond it's a personal choice
ps buzz who you play for
-
scrap that, i have now got a 2nd team game on sunday :D

Who do/have you played hockey for mate. Played a pretty high standerd myself!
And have been having a few nets. and had the bowling machine on me quite alot in the past 3 weeks. cranking up the pace so it should hopefully seem a breeze when i start on saterday!
-
i've been netting for about 10 weeks now, and had a few outdoor sessions. i'm a bit pissed off though because so far we have only one pre-season game arranged which is for the 1st team on the 24th april. so if i'm not selected for this game then i have to wait untill the 1st may to play cricket!
-
9 days now, single figures :)
Knowing me I'll drop a few catches first game and get a 10* lol
-
Hope i get selected as there is only two teams out this saturday!
-
First outdoor practice on the 16th then matches on the 17th and 18th. I can't wait!
