Title: Another Custom made Solitaire
Post by: niceonechoppy on April 21, 2010, 08:13:55 PM
As many of you have seen I bought a Solitaire a few weeks back however because it was too heavy I sent it back for some weight to be taken off from 2'14 to 2'10. Roger said he would do this as well as reimburse postage charges, which was fair and very good of him.

I was after a bat with these specs in red was what I got:

- Large profile around 30-40mm edges and 60-70 mm spine, extra large edges and toe.37 mm edges, 73 mm spine, large edges and toe
- 2'7 to 2'10, including all stickers grips, scuff sheet etc.. 2'11, that picks up very nicely as 2'9!
- Low middle- Yes
- Slight concaved profile, whilst retaining weight to all the crucial areas. Yes
- Bowed blade, similar to a typical asian bat. Yes
- 8-10 Ruler straight grains, with no heartwood or imperfections preferably, although will settle for a strip down the outside edge (I am right handed) if it doesn't affect the grain structure. 10 wonky grains, with speck, a pin knot and a blemish.
- Two white grips Yes
- Clear scuff sheet Yes
- Good pickup. Yes
- Standard SH sizing Yes
-Oval handle Yes

Overall I am happy with the quality of the finish on the bat, despite the lack of good looking willow I will have to settle for it. I doubt I will deal with him again, he hasn't reimbursed my postage charges for sending the other bat back either! Despite this Rogers service was excellent and he answered all my questions and I am happy with the purchase, now to get some runs with it!

Enjoy the pictures:

See absolutely nothing wrong with that bud, better pics would also show it off better.

Neither do I other than poor looking willow, can't do much with the camera on the iPhone! Cracking bat, I'm pleased with it...

Face looks perfect and it does seem it is G1. I would say its just that part which is not clean

Anyways, I hope it goes really well for you and you score tons of runs with it!

You got change in stickers as well right?

Looks like he got your spec almost exactly, except weight.

No i think its wonky, when i pulled the stickers off my solitaire it was set at an angle and over to one side, the spine of the bat doesn't even run through the middle of the splice!! wasn't in the least bit impressed and Roger never answered my e-mails!

Doesn't affect the performance but still . . . .pretty p*ss poor in my opinion!

No the shoulders are slightly gone over to one side! Yes the spine isnt straight either, it is poor but I suppose you pay for what you get......

For £100 there are always going to be sacrifices made somwhere in order to cut a few corners. Haven't picked one up as yet tho so would be interested to compare the finishes on different bats to a solitaire.

Well early indications are that the bat pings very nicely, which is a good sign, i'm chuffed with the bat for the price, felt like I've robbed them but by improving the quality of the finishing he could charge £25 more IMO.
