Title: My favourite time of the year!!!
Post by: peplow on April 21, 2010, 08:20:14 PM
Right guys after the inevitable death of my fusion  :( i am in the hunt for a new bat!

Have my mongoose cor3 but always like to have two so will be looking for an absolute gun!!!!

Here is what i'm after.

2lb 8.5 or lighter (would consider heavier if had feather like pick up!)
Decent grains but not too many (a nice mixture between durability and performance!)
Play on slow low pitches usually, but not always, i love to drive on the up, pull (others may call it a cow!!), flick off legs but fairly straight. Not sure what this means i'm after?? Would think a low middle but shots tend tend to favourite mid or mid high, however i'm probably talking compeltely out of my (No Swearing Please) as have no cluye really!

Ideally love a big profile but got along well with the fusion that didnt so its not essential.

Just really want a bat to settle down with that will last me (i know nobody can assure me of this!) but will still fly off the middle!

Suggestions???

Was considering another cor3, a laver, a lekka normal or t20 bat, a joker, going to talisman and see what he has going ....... whats everyone think?

Newbery Thruxton sounds good, maybe even a GM Hero.

Depends what your budget is......

Newbery Uzi from Talisman maybe since it's similar lengths wise to the Cor3, I think.

The choice is endless but id be looking at what im looking to spend, id then consider if i was after a big brand or if anything and everything was up for consideration. Id make a list of Asian brands and models and anything else i fancy they see what was available and go from there. If you can pick them up and try before you buy all the better and you shouldn't go far wrong.

well just looking for a good deal really, not stupid money but not expecting any to ocme dirt cheap, although the lekkas seem a very very decent price!!

If i was to get a laver it wouldnt be a new one, maybe go second hand if any were going on here as that would save knocking in too! Not too keen on the mass brands, kook, gm etc as feel better value is elsewhere!

Was very much looking to what you guys think a good profile is for me too??? And therefore which ones would suit me??

How about having a chat with Andy @ Saf bats, i bought a bat off him extremely helpful went through questions before deciding on spec, top guy had some cracking premier willow was getting some implicit but didn't upgrade myself even though was willing to pay more as he had really good performing willow in premier.

yeah not a bad shout, would be good to chat to him, blackcat (about the joker) aswell as joker owners, also looking for lekka opinions, thats on the bats, not the brand!!! No arguing!!!

Want this bat to be "the one" ;) ;) haha!!

seems a lot of people slate lekka without having seen one...  from a purely selfish point of view I'd like to see a review

 :D

Lekka T20 bats are the same width and length.
Excellent quality although the Joker had ever so slightly better willow.
But that's nit picking considering both bats are top notch quality and finish!!

I also have a beauty of a Lekka RDX which again is amazing quality and finish. So certainly no knocking them!  ;)

If I were after a quality bat, the choice is endless on this forum - Andy (SAF), Mike (Talisman), Dom (for Lekka), Charlie (BlackCat), Matt (H4L), Gary (Redback), etc, etc!!  :(

From personal experience I can endorse speaking to andy at saf or Richard at quantum, alternatively, if I was in the market I would be thinking about one of those vantage xl's! Wont be this year for me though.

How much are the vantage xl's???

The newbery got passed onto a lad who was struggling to get a bat for the upcoming season. His Family struggling with money as have had a few "tragedies" recently meaning all is not well, but they are such nice people that dont deserve it to happen to them so am trying my best to do all i can to ease the situation! Club bats are crap as is borrowing peoples all the time so have given it free on a season long loan! Never really play with him so cant borrow it back and wouldnt want to take it off him! Anyway i love getting a new bat :D!

yeah well procricket made me realise its all about enjoying it, after he loaned me his laver, something that means so much to him just so i could see what they are like as i'm after one. And i'd enjoy cricket without the newbery, however know what its like for everyone to have their stuff except you, and borrowing etc isn't great, so if this means we can both enjoy cricket then everyone is a winner!! and he is part of my club so if he does well, the club does well which hopefully means i do well too! Can't lose!!!!

Well then guys! Thinking of going down to look at talismans bats as bound to be a few top bargains ;) and quality bats galore. May also make it a day trip and meet up with shilly to see his lekkas!!

Will be asking about a joker, but would need a lot of info as i wont be able to go see it!

also still looking for a laver....so if anyone is selling one give me a shout :D!

Whats everyone think of my choices? SAF is slightly too far for me, dont fancy naother mongoose unless its superb! also believe there are enough great english brands around atm not to warrant getting an indian one! Cant believe i'm doing this so close to the start of the season!!!

Redback's not far from us bud, neither is M&H

Yeah not mad on redback's profile but m&h could be a possibility. think talisman will have similar bats of a higher quality though, and probably at a better price knowing him!

Yeah cars suck!! Just put the deposit down on my first house and my car has started playing up! So I'll end up probably not buying a fridge but buying a bearing or some other small but expensive part!

Okay after a 2lb 7 or 2lb 8 (depending on pick up) with 8-11 straight grains, dont mind a little bit of heartwood! Meaty profile and top performance obviously! But not one thats so soft and lightly pressed it'll last a matter of minutes!! Hence why i dont want a million grains :). Lower the profile the better..... and dont mind the t20 style bat (cor3/joker size) or a standard bat it doesnt really matter!

Will be visiting mike if he reckons he has something good, same with shilly, but also asking vantage/blackcat etc etc if they could make something good! Have around £150 but if something great comes up over then may consider!

let me know if anyone has any goo suggestions! advice or suitable bats!
