Title: Gripping The Bat
Post by: tommo256 on April 23, 2010, 07:19:37 PM
Hello,
I had a few throwdowns today, and when I play a drive the top of my bat smashes into my wrist and has left me with with a huge lump.
I didnt know whether it was grip or technique?

cheers x

is that coz of extra handle space left ? you can take it to a woodworker and cut half inch of handle.

Could be the problem then. I used to hold it right at the bottom and I had the same problem. Thaman's solution is a good one, and in the future, it may benefit you to look for a SSH (super short handle) to help you out a bit.  :)

Hmm... Small hands maybe? Haha I really don't know then, how do you grip it? As in how wide apart are your hands? Would definitely be something for a coach/experienced player to look at and help you with!

I'm in no place to give expert advice, being a tailender, but I used to do the same thing, maybe have more of a gap between top and bottom hand? It'll mean you're less wristy with your shots, but it'll be more comfortable and help you through the off side more?

I have seen quite a few pros holding the bat very low on the handle. I grip my bat right at the top but I'm kinda tall and probably verging on a LH. Perhaps you just need to try and vary your grip while having throw downs and see what is comfortable.
