Well - another car boot sale, another old (ish) bat - the Gray-Nicolls Mega Power. I've seen scoops and dyna-drives, but have yet to see a Mega Power!
Anyway - not sure whether to refurbish the bat or leave it be?
If anyone has owned this type of bat or knows a little bit about it then i'm all ears - cheers!
By the way - this bat also comes with one of the best stickers i have seen.......as the pictures will show :)

Looks like its designed to pick up heavy
-
shame that jesus didnt show a little more love to this bat, it looks knackered, would it be worth a refurb? i say yes for experimental purposes if nothing else!
nice conifers ;)
-
Bit early for sarcastic remarks isnt it Leo???
It does pick up heavy as the majority of the weight is towards the bottom of the bat :)
Mr.c - i'm not a big fan of these often over-hyped sofa shots - windows and gardens will do me fine :)
-
I dont know if thats marks on the scuff sheet or whether its the actual bat, but it does have some nice grains under that mess of a scuff sheet??
-
I think it should scrub it pretty nicely - just an issue of refrubing it myself for free, or sending it up to gray nics for a full refurb and new stickere? I think the grains shouldnt be too bad underneath from the looks of things, 8-9 i think
-
Yeah agreed, should come up nicely. I think with bats like this, I would send it back to Gray Nicholls. Didnt someone say a refurb costs £25 from Gray Nicholls or was that some other company?
-
Gray Nicolls should definately bring back a modern bat with 2 scoops - they're so cool!

Bit early for sarcastic remarks isnt it Leo???
Just the profile looks really similar to that kookabura you were saying looked like it was made to pick up heavy
-
Lol - i know, very very similar profile - are the old designs are making a comeback perhaps???
-
My guess is it is a GN Mega Drive
-
how much did you buy it for shill?
-
Would love to see it refurbed :)
-
i bought a couple of classic g-n bats yesterday, 1 is a gn scoop 100
-
Would be very interesting to see it refurbed by GN, and the condition it would arrive back in, what would they sticker it up as?
-
50p for this one - so no complaining - off to another car boot in a minute in search for more bargains, then it's off to the club president to prize a few bats off his hands :)
Cheers for the info andy!
Matt - you refurbing the bats or keeping as they are for the collection?
-
Hey Dom, off topic, my daughter has a cricket day out at Langport today, not going out myself as playing this afternoon. Also we have a lad playing for us now Ben Ford who used to play for you. Looks a good player for 17.
-
then i saw her this morning then, i popped into the ground as they were playing a match - development day or something like that.
Ben is a good player and will turn into an extremely good player if he gets the right coaching and a chance to play, personally i was pretty gutted he moved teams but to be fair he drove 13 odd miles for every match and westlands is on his doorstep - will he be playing 1's or 2's for you?
-
First team i think. Saw him for the first time on Thursday at nets and was impressed. He played yesterday and bowled ok and only batted at the end. He is playing today so hopefully he will bat in the the top 4. Looks a very good young player which is what we need, us old uns can move aside then !!! why don't you drive 13 miles and join us ?
Yes think the girls is a Somerset development day. Nice set up out you place now. I went out there last summer with her for the first time in years.
-
How do you find out about these car boot places?
-
why don't you drive 13 miles and join us ?
Because i would like to think in a year or two's time we will be in the same division and beating you.
-
Uzair - depends where you live, there's loads around, look in your local paper and look under the events page or just keep your eyes peeled for signs when your driving around. I have been lucky so far, i doubt i will find anything else for the rest of the year now :)
-
LOL, fair enough.

Just saw this post and a lad at school used to have a GN Mega Power as I remember the 'demi-scoopage' at the bottom. He got on well with it and remember it was quite a heavy bat. Those were the days - the dynadrive, scoop, mega power, powerspot etc...!
-
The Megapower had a second incarnation as the Sabre (I think) as used by Nasser Hussain.
-
I have a refurbed Sabre, and its different to the megapower. Its got shorter scoops, smaller edges and a lower middle.
I've also just purchased a Dynadrive off ebay and am eagerly waiting its arrival! Next target - a SS jumbo
-
What's the difference between a GN Viper and Scimitar?
-
my dad has a classic jumbo, there is one down at the club laying on the floor after we demolished the shed. At my other club we have some classic bats in the pub league kit bag. GN single scoops and double scoops. Really battered now!
-
Yes I'm after a Scoop too!
-
Here's what that MegaPower would have looked like when it was new :) -

What's the difference between a GN Viper and Scimitar?
Basically, the shape of the scoops.
The Scmitar had scoops that were half curved, with the edge nearest the spine of the bat straight. The Viper was like the old 4 scoop in having totally curved scoops
