Title: My Newbery Krakatoa - Players
Post by: ca_gold on April 27, 2010, 03:27:49 AM
Well I received my Newbery Krakatoa (players model) from Asad last week.

I asked for a light bat - was looking for something in the 2'7 or 2'8 range. This bat weighs in at 2'7.

Initial thoughts: This is a one good looking bat! There isn't a blemish on the face. Not sure what the difference between this and an SPS model would be. Maybe more grains? Either way i think i've got a beauty here.

I love the finish and the profile on it. I found it to be slightly more bottom heavy then my GN - but the bat pick ups and swings very well. I had two light net sessions with it and immediately fell in love with it. It's a class above the rest of my bats. it feels like i've gone from a honda to a mercedes (even if it's not the s class :P).

Service: once again asad bhai was fantastic. this is my third purchase from him. he once again emailed plenty of pics, he was always accessible. I probably exchanged another 40 emails with him for this bat and i think i got one of his best. it was a pleasure dealing with him and im hoping at this rate uzisports sponsors me next season ;)

hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Woow mate nice pictures! The bat looks great as well! It definitely seems to be over than 2.7 lbs. The bat does seem to be top notch. If it had SPS tag on it I wouldn't have any doubt regarding the bat. Another cracker by Asad Bhai!

I hope the bat goes really well for you and you score tons of runs with it!

I assume that Asad handpicks all the newberys from Tim like he does all the other manufacturers he deals with - hence the quality.
Cover-drive - it's very hard to 'elaborate' on 'ping' - i think there is too much emphasis placed on the 'ping' of a bat through a rather artificial and possibly misleading test of hitting it with a wooden mallet and bouncing a ball up and down on it, instead of seeing what it is like in a match against a hard leather ball......only then will you know if the bat is any good and whether it truly 'pings'......so it might be a bit early to tell whether the bat is fantastic, good, average, poor. However, with it being a Newbery then we come to expect the bat will perform as standard.

thanks guys - i use a Nikon D40 (slr camera).  A bit of an up an coming hobby really.

CD - ping wise - its hard to describe - i had a few hits with it and it feels good, i like it. I think everyone has different perceptions & styles of play, so me saying this bat has amazing ping doesnt mean much.

Buzz the botanist :)
That camera is fantastic - puts the rest of us camera owners to shame, well worth the extra money getting a decent SLR.....just out of interest, file size are we talking about 5-6mb each?

orginially yes - i shoot in the higest setting, so yeah, it's about 5 - 6mb per file. But then i do a little touching up in Adobe, at which point i resize them before posting to photobucket.

hopefully will get an oppurtunity soon to take pictures at an international event. though i'd rent a mega zoom lens for that.

thanks guys.

CD - i've seen you joined the club. Personally i love this bat. Love the pickup, bottom heavy weight an all. I live on the front foot on our slow low pitches, this bat is perfect.

Yup, I have.

You kinda made me fall in love for this bat :P I have tested it yet but mate it's awesome stick. I guess for our conditions it will suit as you mentioned we have low and slow pitches so I hope it goes well.

Have you played any game(s) with your Krakatoa?
