Title: Any Sussex fans out there?
Post by: Johnny on April 27, 2010, 02:19:45 PM
Anyone got any ideas why James Anyon has opened the batting for you guys today? James played at one of my old clubs and has signed for Sussex from Warwickshire this year - always keep an eye out for how he's doing and there are a couple of us astounded at today's scorecard which says he's opening?!? He's a handy bat at league level, but by his own admission is a complete rabbit by first class standards

Hmmm.... Not quite the mentality I'd expect from a 1st class coach...

"So lads, we've bowled the opposition out cheap, I'm just going to make sure everyone gets a game so today we're going to let James open.."

theyre 100% in control, why not take the chance to give anyon some batting. Kent used tredwell in a similar way to develop his batting

I don't think there is that much there to develop!

Still, maybe Mark Robinson has seen otherwise. Peter Moores keeps persisting with Tom Smith at the top of the order at Lancs, even though he always batted 8-9 under Watkinson. Tom was seen as a true all rounder at age group level and as a league pro, where as James was always a bowler who could bat a bit.
