Title: LAVER OWNERS- Laver and Wood Carbo Heritage
Post by: PM7 on May 06, 2010, 07:49:29 AM
Chaps, there has been so many positive reviews on Laver bats that I have been itching to get one. This season I have bought a BAS Bow and an AS V3 Custom and expected to use these as my match bats. However 2 weeks ago I spotted a Laver and Wood Carbo Heritage on Ebay, hardly used for less than a season and with very little interest.Anyway I nicked it for £62 which was very odd and was prepared for the worst!

WOULD BE GREAT IF SOMEONE COULD POST PICS UP FOR ME AND I WILL COMPLETE THE REVIEW.

I think you must have felt pretty smug when you opened the box up and out pops that beauty! It has a pretty high middle from the looks of it, can i ask the weight?

Yes I was pretty chuffed when I got it as the seller couldnt send me more pics but I did confirm that it had a lamitoe insert and a carbon handle.Anyway it has hardly been used and I removed the scuff sheet and lightly sanded it and gave it a light coat.Changed the grip and it looks lovely.Weight is 210 and does pick up lighter. What really got me was  the fact that it has the perfect oval handle.I have a BAS which is semi oval, a AS that is too thin and a Warsop that is almost too oval but damm it this feels perfect!

Absolutely beautifully balanced with a highish middle which suits me as we play on artificial wickets.I can understand why Laver owners bang on about how good these bats are. The profile alone is the PERFECT one for my style as an opener and just feels huge although the edges are only 30mm but the sweetspot is bigger than my Warsop Platinum.

You can definitely feel smug with that purchase - and you have done a really good job of taking the scuff sheet of cleaning it up.
It looks lovely

Thanks Buzz, actually I hardly did anything, it was in excellent condition and the grains have opened up nicely.I always prefer to buy a slightly used but fully  knocked in bat as I cant be arsed to spend the time.
Performance review to follow in a bit....

haha im the same hate buying a brand new bat as can never fidn the time to knock it in properly!!! Hence why most of mine have come off you lucky lot on here along with one of our own brand bats :)

Been using the L&W churchill in nets for training on tuesdays and it goes like stink even for the cheapest in their range...such a shame it's a long blade version as it doesnt feel quite right being an inch longer that a normal bat in order for me to use it in a full game situation....may give it a trial next weds as got a T20 match!

Ok now for the key issue that is performance. The ball does crisply crack off the bat and the much overused word "ping" did light up my net session.Everyone goes on about ping on this forum but what actually is ping? A checked lofted drive went for six and i have never done that ever! This bat is pressed to perfection and is completely knocked in.My BAS and AS ping for sure but does it PING like this Laver? No they dont and im not sure if the carbon handle is the key. With minimal effort the ball flies off the face of this bat. The sound is different but the ball flies furthur, absolutely no doubt about this.

LAVER OWNERS: What makes these bats sound and play differently?
: Why are they so highly rated as nobody seems to have a dud Laver?
:  Is it the pressing or the willow that guarantees performance as mine has 7 grains, widely spaced and has                   opened up well after knocking in?

IS THIS BEST BAT I HAVE EVER USED?
SO FAR YES AND I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THE HYPE...LOL

PM7, that has to be the best £62 spent on any bat on eBay? What a bat!

PM7 - I hear you with regards to the checked drive - my Laver has hit many shots that went a lot lot further than I was trying to hit it

The bat I have at the moment is such a nice bat, I had a Blade before which was ok. And my Champ Fighter is so much nicer, it has to be in the pressing. I had a roll on net session and hit a lofted one bounce 4 with a check drive which would never had happened with my Blade!

I really want a L&W but don't think I can afford the prices. I try to find bargains like this, but never have any luck!

it sounds differant because of the handle i believe

Theres little or no vibration with the carbo handle but more of a clunk when you hit the ball rather than a crack.
Nevertheless the ball seems to travel faster off the bat face and most balls feel like they have found the middle.
Allround this is a great bat and I can see myself getting a new one next season.Im glad that I managed to try out a Laver for a good price but this has motivated me to get a new one as well.

Absolutely gutted to report that my first 2 innings  with the Laver were a duck and 1. >:(
I still feel that this is a cracking bat and I love the shape and pickup.

On another note could anyone tell me how to get some new stickers for the bat.Shall I send James pics of my bat and ask for some? Im not sure what they cost and I wont be sending my bat to NZ for a refurb obviously. Thanks chaps.

Just email James and he should sort you out.
If he wants pics of the bat, then he will ask for them.  :D
