When would a 4 grain bat be better then a grade 1 or Grade A+++++ or 5 Stars, yadda yadda, bat?
-
I asked this question the other day, a team mate has a Fisher bat from aus when he went there 2 years back and he bought a g1 bat for around £200, it had 4 grains, with no heartwood. Surely as a 4 grained bat isn't as cosmetically present as a 7-15 grained bat? In terms of performance, it is determined by pressing surely?

Oh dear... I sense another pressing lecture? ;)
-
I don't mind, all part of the education which Is CBF.

Nothing about pressing but if you think it is answer the question!
-
No answer, pressing might be relevant or is it another assumption?
Who grade's a bat on performance or via the mallet....... there are some bats on here, based on the owners opinion, that go like trains, surely they must know?
Edit: Anyone hand pick there bats, they should have a clue for this question?

Not sure but the 4 grain slazenger sxi my bro had was a top range model and goes well...simply because it has 4 grains doesn't warrent writing it off as drift wood surely??
-
It would be better if the profile and pick up and handle shape and type and all the other little things suited the owner perfectly.
-
I reckon that the 4 grainer would be better for long life? Or is that a generalisation?
We are always hearing that the multigrained bats tend to play well from the off? But don't have long life expectancy? Play hard and die young?
And that the lesser grained variety take longer to play-in to performance mode. I know that the Laver I normally use is around 7 grains and has taken a while to play-in, but now its playing superbly well. And that it feels as if it will last longer than the 30 grainers?
Or am I completely wrong?

Good work Pete almost there!
-
Ok - so longer life and better performance for more of it's life? ???

didnt matt hayden have a 3 or 4 grainer in one match he played...something tells me he did, could be completely wrong!!
