Title: Kookaburra Blade Razor
Post by: C-Goyler on May 25, 2010, 10:42:46 AM
I'm thinking about buying a Kook Blade Razor, Long Blade, 2lb 8oz.

The problem is I'm gonna order it online and I've emailed them and they can't show me pictures of the actual bat (for what reason I don't know). I'm interested to see what the profile of the bat is at that weight as it is advertised as having;

"Unique design featuring huge profile and minimal weight"

has anyone used or seen one of these? Whats the profile like?

I have a 2'6 kook blade razor which I bought from Gilmour sports last year! It's an impressive bat, it has 28 mm edges which Is quite good for the weight IMO. It has a very light pick up, not the best grains in the world but a nice bat none the less! Especially for the price I bought it for....

If you could send me the pics or post them on here that would be awesome. What weight is it petehosk?

I made use of the Gilmour sports sale last year aswell, crazy prices, i picked up a GM hero Original but tbh it didn't look like it should have been an original.

pretty impressive considering thats not the top of that range, how is a cleft like that not the "runner"?

Not evenly spaced grains! That bat is a carbon copy of my Razor! The quality of willow was very similar, I am a big fan of the Old blade profile.

That bat looks often, it makes me wanna use my Ice tomorrow on practice.

I must admit that I am torn between keeping it brand new as a part of collection cos the profile is very nice, or using it myself, or selling it on ebay!
At the moment, I have managed to resist.

I would keep it :-), my bat has a similar profile and it plays like gold. Only negative thing about it is that the grip started to move and it took me some time and a lot of skills to get it back in place.

Thanks for the pictures petehosk, I was hoping it would look like that (great photography btw). I hope the one I'm going to order ends up as good as that one. All i've got to decide now is whether to put a white or yellow grip on it :)

Problem is I have 90-100 other bats!  :(
But I think you're right! Will keep it with the Kookaburra Beast Graphite!  :D

And it looks G1 (maybe lower G1 as the grains are not ruler spaced evenly?)

Lovely, can you put some pics of all your bats online once you find time for it. Would love to admire your collection.

I do need to update my collection photos as it's changed!!
Plus I  have some bats that are pretty special too. At the moment, it's finding the time, but will do my best!  8)

So would I! I think the question is what job do you have to afford all of the bats?

Have a couple of trunks which are kept in non-radiatored storage!!
But get them out and sort them. Some in cupboard upder stairs. Some in my bedroom. Some in other rooms, etc, etc!
Need a bigger house to store them all!  ;)

a teammate of mine had one and although it was light there wasnt much meat on it. very thin for a 2'8. i wouldnt buy it if you cant see pics of the actual bat your buying.  not because of anything suspicious but because you can get an idea of what your buying that way

Its too late Cakes, I've taken the gamble! I guess I can always send it back if its not what I'm after but after seeing Petehosk's i thought it was worth taking a punt. I'll let you know how it turns out.

£170 seems pricey to me...

It's not cheap i guess but the bigger brands never are. No way I'd find a deal like that in any of the sports shops in my area.

Surprised to see it still listed tbh as they told me they only had the one in stock.

Is a bit pricey! Could have had mine for £130 posted!!
£170 is ok but you could have done better!

Pete, does you collection spread to soft goods aswell?

Kind of - nowhere near as many soft goods as bats.

I got my Razor for £94 with next day postage, admittedly in an incredible sale...

Wow, sounds like i've gotten a raw deal, lol. Where'd you get that one choppy? Yours is a SH isn't it Petehosk so would have been no good for me (I've got the Long Blade coming)

Tbh looking at some of the redbacks on the forum I'm tempted to return the Kook and get one of them.

To be honest if I were going to spend around £170 on a bat, I would go for a Redback, SAF and one of the other custom bats on here!!
You can get an absolute blaster for that price fella!  8)

does sound pretty steep for an of the shelf bat that has been knocked out... for £10 extra u can look at a whole heap of smaller brands top end bats as Mr Hosk mentioned above that have had the TLC put into them to ensure they are high quality!

Given that Pete has the most experience of buying bats of anyone on the forum (in the world?) as a punter I would really consider taking his advice.

To be frank about it, an off the shelf Kookaburra would be a decent enough bat if you didn't know any better, and I'm sure it would be a fairly decent stick.
BUT I have a couple of Kookaburra bats, and they are nice enough.....but if I compare them to some of my Newberys, Redback, Talismans, Black Cats, even Lekkas, then the Kookaburras feel ordinary!! Just my opinion, but I am pretty sure others have experienced the same!

Bagged mine from Gilmour sports, great sale. Also picked up an Cannon 808 for £48! Sold it on straight away though as it was too heavy....

OK, so the Kook has arrived and has 10 evenly spaced grains but has quite a large blemish about half way up the blade which i'm guessing is what stopped it from being a 'Runner'. The pick-up and bat speed you can get is really quite impressive while the profile is pleasantly substantial (serious concaving though).

People who've had experince of both Kooks and Redback, what are the recomendations?
