hi, would like some advice on hitting the ball up, rather then flat.
the problem I'm having is getting the elevation hitting straight, I'm very much a front foot player but i keep hitting the ball flat and cant get the lift! is this because of a problem with my batting or that the ball I'm trying to hit is too full?
can any one help?
cheers in advance!

I'm no batsman, but I get hit over the top for enough, and if you watch them they all follow well through their shots, and lean backwards as well. I'm not too sure of the science of it all, but that's how I see it. If anyone else could elaborate I'd be more than happy

I have this problem as well.
I think you have to hit the ball earlier than usual.
I just avoid the shot over the top and drive to the side whichever the ball favours.

keep it on the carpet lad!

this is a good point, but its always good to have something else in the shot locker, might try a few things in the friendly game tommorrow. a slight lean back?
surly if i'm trying to hit it earlier i'll lose power in the shot??

my speciality is hitting over the top well....sllogging
just dont try and hit the ball for six try and hit it for a one bounce four lean back a bit and you should be sorted

If you are going over the top, make sure you commit and follow through the ball. It you check the shot you are more likely to get out.

Leaning back is probably a better option than hitting the ball earlier.

elevation is gained by using more bottom hand than top hand....this gives an upward angle to the blade and lifts the ball in the air!

definately having this problem this season. all my teammates say they can tell that when i bat i'm always looking for the drive (drove the ball through the covers first ball of the match today), but this is also my downfall when i'm batting as i keep getting caught at cover.
this isn't really worrying me too much though as not once this season has the bowler got me out, so although i'm getting low scores it something i can put right myself.
the main bit of advice i got today was to play the ball under my eyes. the top batsman in our side told me to think of all the pro's when they move their feet, the main reason is so they can play the ball under their eyes. simple bit of advice but i think it will work... and improve my game.

I had that trouble with my M&H, had a chat with norbs about it having something to do with the bat. Was using a Solution and the low middle was scooping the ball up. Changed to Mid/High middles now and its perfect.

My advice would be to try and keep the ball on the carpet. However, hitting over the top is mainly about how much bottom hand you use. I really wouldn't lean back as suggested is it is then harder to keep your head over the ball and you will end up missing the ball or getting caught having a heave with your head in the air. To practice hitting over the top, use the side of the net and hit a flat tennis ball on the bounce into the net. After a few hits you will work out the best length for you. Do smack a few along the floor to so you keep the technique for both.
