i'll tell you what, those SS's look great and he play out of his skin once again tonight, put one in the river. Him and Zander made a great winning stand today

I looked at Zander's TT last Friday and it was a stonker, but presumed that Pollard uses 3lb+ as it was the biggest bat I've seen a Pro use. Never mind got a brand new GN Ignite here made for an England captain......

During the super eights stage of the T20 World Cup in Barbados Pollard had about 5-6 bats.... they were all virtually the same in terms of grains. I had the opportunity to pick up one and it was surprisingly light for what i recently found out was 2.10lb... Ask me anything you want about anyone's bats from the WI, SL or NZ and ill be able to tell you as long as I can remember clearly

Chris Gayle has the most horrible, heavy and unwieldy pieces of timber I've seen from a pro.

I am sure that I've read somewhere that Chris Gayle uses a Newberry

Do the bat companies have to supply the pros with bats foc as well as pay them to use them?
Title: Re: Kieron Pollards Bats...
Post by: procricket on June 18, 2010, 10:54:08 PM
i suspect 70 per cent of us on here in some way use a bat that came either through newbery one way or another i certainly do
Title: Re: Kieron Pollards Bats...

Uhmm interesting. Someone once said on this forum that Gayle uses actual Inferno 950 bat. Not sure how precise that is but yesterday or a day before that some on this fourm also said before T20 Newbery had Gayle bats made. So am confused about it. But I personally think it will be most likely be Newbery.

I also think Mahela Jayawardene uses Newbery as well. It looks Thruxton to me as toe seemed a bit diamondish and seems to have a high middle etc.

Yes, each player has an account with the company. £2-3000 a yr of kit (RRP) is about standard.

Soon stacks up then in terms of kit cost and supplying them with softs etc obviously cost price us alot less but none the less!

That sum is given to them to buy kit?
Title: Re: Kieron Pollards Bats...
Post by: Tom on June 18, 2010, 11:13:21 PM
No, they're given an account with x amount of credit on it. The value they have to spend is stipulated by their contract.

They are then given money on top to endorse the equipment, that figure varies from £0 (county bowlers etc) to Millions (Dhoni)

Ah right fair enough...as u can tell we haven't had to deal with such demands as yet! As a small company forking out for people to endorse stuff was something we wanted to avoid
Title: Re: Kieron Pollards Bats...
Post by: Cover_Drive on June 18, 2010, 11:17:36 PM
Wow they make alot from the sponsors as well. I thought the max they would make would be 1000 pounds (lol) and thats for international players.

Imagine if they run out of the credit on there account and they need anything do they have to pay for that from there own pocket?

Thanks mate
Title: Re: Kieron Pollards Bats...
Post by: Tom on June 18, 2010, 11:19:51 PM
Yes, anything over and above they pay for.

Helmets are slightly easier to get people to use FOC as many sponsors don't cover them in their contract. They are also very much personal preference so its very tricky for brands to force all their players to use their particular own brand helmet and they're obviously more tricky to sticker up than bats. For the above reasons its much easier to pick up players to endorse a helmet for free than it is a bat. The flip side of this I'd that when a player uses a helmet the chances are he likes it, rather than is being paid big bucks to use it.

That said we've had 2 players use a Goose in game situations despite being contracted by other brands and a few others have asked their sponsors to copy/source one.

Gayle's bats were quite massive but there was no consistency in shape among them... the were almost like a plain cleft with a handle and ihsan stickers...

Jayawardene bats were not that big and Sangakkara's were not that big either.... I would guess and say that Jayawardenas bat was about 2.7 2.8 well the one that I had a clear view at anyway but I wouldnt be surprised if i was told that they were 2.10, and Sanga's were a bit bigger which would put them at a definite 2.10 I suppose

Tommo...yeh helmets were my target market after the soft good experience with CCC as it certainly narrowed down the competitors in the market sector, was intrigued by the soft and bat area of sponsorship as were obviously looking to broaden our market appeal with high quality pads, gloves and bats etc

Much appreciated for your informative response.

Do you by any chance remember number of grains etc? And perhaps figured out the batmaker?

Once again thanks
