I went to local businesses in my area (Surrey) and asked them if they would pay for a percentage of my equipment needs throughout the season if I displayed their company on my cricket bat and other equipment. Asked quite a few until one - Select Asset Management - said yes! As they put it, they will 'pay for the privilege of using my bat to display their company' and that is 10% of any item up to £500 in total. It works out to £50, which is actually quite a lot considering im only a club player and its a local business.
All other I asked bar Select said no. One cab office said they would think about it but im not sure If I want lots of sticker on the bat - one seems enough, although I can still imagine the sledging opportunities from that!
I think this is a good way of getting better quality equipment. Local businesses are run by good word of mouth an dont advertise much but this maybe represents a cheaper way of promoting the company. Im sure some of you guys could get a similar deal ;)
Cheers

Sounds like a good idea mate, and you got a result. How did you go about it? Did you just send a letter or what? Cheers

I just went around all the local shops and practices on my high street. Face to face conversations seem to have a better impact and than letters or phone calls I think. I had planned the places being visited beforehand and made some quick visits round the neighbourhood to find out as much as I could about them. Went in there with a load of facts, ready to impress. Most showed me the door within 3 minutes so be prepared for rejection!
Im looking at some Bulldog and SG gear atm. Want to get the Pedigree Bat and 2011 Pads but not a big fan of the gloves so may ditch the idea as I cant imagine not having matching gear lol (us wicket keepers, eh). Like all of the SG gear but postage of £60 on £180 worth of stuff makes it difficult.

Oh right might be worth trying then. Good work.

So it's £50 cash back once you have spent £500 on equipments, right? So does it have to be in one transaction or what?
By the way, congrats on getting this deal
-
Thanks bud - I have to give them receipts and they will reimburse me
-
Oh okay. But you will only get £50 when you spend £500, right?
-
Yup thats right.
-
not really - If i spend £4 on an abdo guard, I will get 40p in return. £50 from 500 doesnt sound a lot but in real terms it is. eg instead of getting Kook Brad Haddin gloves, I can get silvers etc.

Your idea was quite impressive. I applaud your views on this deal. It's like getting 10 quids off a £100 bat which ain't bad. If you get another company doing same thing then you are all set.
