Title: PAK vs Aus and Umar Akmal
Post by: Buzz on July 05, 2010, 05:11:17 PM
Just watching some t20 madness - Watching Akmal is great fun, but the really noticable thing is how closely he watches the ball. He is a really talented young player.

Actually also it is noticable how he knows where the fielders are an places the ball well, so if the ball isn't there for the big smash, can lay bat on ball to rotate the strike

No - this is the new Pakistan... a team will take the personality of its leader so the Paks will hopefully morph away from the Boom Boom to a more diligent team - we can only hope anyway!

Pakistan have an unbelievably good bowling attack but the batting is equally poor. The need 2 strong middle order batsman and a decent opener. There also needs to be more depth in the batting so the lower order players can sticker around for more than 6 balls!

that is not necessarily wrong, but you can't replace Yunis Khan, Mohammed Yousif and Inzi quickly - the three middle order players they have picked are really young and very talented - you have to give them a chance to bed in. Playing your first test at Lords is a big ask for a new No3 and No4, give them 10-12 tests before you lobby for change

Buzz I totally agree - we need to stick with Ali and Amin for atleast another year, althuogh I doubt the selectors will be that patient.

I think they will get upto 324 Allout to put some pressure onto the Aussies batsmen to come out and perform in the 2nd innings. As i type the second wicket falls :)

Umar amin is good, but it's all about umar akmal! I really hope he goes big tomorrow.
Both players pick the length of the ball really early, the big test will be tomorrow morning to see if they can cling on for the first hour.

What a cracking days play.Always good to see the Aussies under the cosh as they really set the benchmark for great Test cricket. On their day Pakistan can hammer anybody and in the next session can immediately lose the test match!
Title: Re: PAK vs Aus and Umar Akmal
Post by: Buzz on July 22, 2010, 10:23:20 AM
What a crazy opening over...this is Test match, remember, not Twenty20

39.6
Johnson to Umar Akmal, no run, what's this? Oh, it's a leave. How mundane from Umar.

Replays show that no-ball was very tight

39.6
Johnson to Umar Akmal, (no ball) 2 runs, oh my goodness, what's going on here...Umar has an almighty heave at this delivery which is full outside off, it was a no-ball but I'm not sure he'll have heard the call, and he skies it to cover. To cap it all there's nearly a run out. Blimey

39.5
Johnson to Umar Akmal, no run, full outside off and there's no holding back from Umar as he drives powerfully to mid-off

39.4
Johnson to Umar Akmal, FOUR, oh, that's a proper shot...stands tall and cuts at the top of the bounce through backward point. That flew off the bat and already Pakistan are away

39.3
Johnson to Umar Akmal, 2 runs, full outside off and what follows is a shambles...Katich misfields in the covers then Umar Akmal slips in the crease as he tries to turn for a third

39.2
Johnson to Umar Akmal, 2 runs, closer to the batsman and he doesn't need much invitation to have a flash as he gets a thick outside edge that lands short of gully who manages to get a hand on it

39.1
Johnson to Umar Akmal, no run, a real wild start, slung way outside off stump and that isn't far from a wide...not a great way to begin

never a dull moment...!!
Title: Re: PAK vs Aus and Umar Akmal
Post by: Buzz on July 22, 2010, 10:37:59 AM
arg... all that talent, so little brain  >:(

43.4
Johnson to Umar Akmal, OUT, 89.5 mph, gone! There's the breakthrough. A full length outside off draws Umar onto the front foot and the ball takes the outside edge through to the very tidy Tim Paine

 Umar Akmal c †Paine b Johnson 21 (20b 1x4 1x6) SR: 105.00

bad news for Amin too - still the Paks are pushing towards a useful lead - if they can get it to 200 then it is really game on...

closely followed by how not to play the short ball when holding a laminated bat (obviosuly that last bit it purely an alegation based on no facts whatsoever...)

Anyone who fancies going to the game later...For entry today for the final session which starts at 3.30pm, adults can enter after 3.10pm today at the reduced price of £15 each and can bring up to four juniors (under 16s) in for free." So get on down there, you might see a finish to this Test. You never know.
Personally i think Yorkshire have got a lot of the pricing wrong for this test, they should have charged £15 a day and tried to fill the ground...

yeh if the fielder claims the catch i think you have to take his word for it and go, ironic that he caught him again!
Title: Re: PAK vs Aus and Umar Akmal
Post by: petehosk on July 24, 2010, 10:46:15 AM
Hussey is about as straight as they come, so I would take his word for it!
But I doubt it would have made any difference anyway. He caught him again as justice provailed!

But seriously, the Aussies needed another 20-30 runs to pull a win out of the bag!
I reckon with an another 10-15 runs, then it would have been a 'down to the wire' match, with either 9 wickets down Pakistan win or an Aussie win. Entertaining play today though!  :D
