Title: Tendulkar's bat - Newbery?
Post by: Colesy on August 05, 2010, 01:49:41 AM
I'm bored so I discovered this,
(http://www.cricinfo.com/db/PICTURES/CMS/120200/120230.jpg)
made by Newbery or just a hammer edge sheet?

Also Salman Butt's

I agree,

It makes sense if they are made by Newbury for the pros as they both are sponsorsed by Adidas. Therefore it makes logical sense.

I have a friend who sells all his 'own brand' bats with Hammer Edges on them.... they're all made by Sareen

...not claiming that these bats are Sareen, just that in some people's eyes Hammer Edge are the best scuff sheets

Slightly off topic, how do you reckon Sachin keeps his 20-odd years old pads so white? Do you think he cleans them meticulously, or just paints them regularly?

Bats do not seem to be Newbery as the shoulders of the bats are very square (mostly Asian brands). Most english brands have curved shoulders.

But I have heard that Newbery have made bats for Sachin. Well which batmaker would not like to make bats for the little master.

I was under the impression  that he has tried most bats?
So are we to believe that he only ever uses Adidas bats these days? Or are we to believe that he changes bats more often that he changes his underwear? Or possibly somewhere in between?
I would guess that he has used them in the past, but not sure what he uses at the moment! Only the Master himself will know!  8)

Sachin buys them from the factory, half the Pakistani squad are using the same bats.

I assume that the Pakistan team went to Newbery once they got here, and had a lovely choice of clefts?

What service!  8)

By the way Mike, I know that Newbery bats generally have a letter and number to signify the year and batch it was made, assuming they are not grabbed before they have the stamp put on!  ;)
But one of my Newbery bats has D5Z on? So D is year and 5 is batch. But any idea what the Z is for?  ???

There are no stripes on it though!
And the D will stand for Duck, which is a score I get most of the time!  ;)

Sachin uses a wide variety of bat makers.
I know the one that he was using in his early season rich vein of form was a BAS, but he does like a newberry.
i play in Sussex and you always see "one of Sachin's bats" some of them are grwatit has to be said.

We played against someone with a Chris gayle Newbery the other week.
The bat was a big blade, long handles monster. It came up to my shoulders and didn't feel like any bat i had ever picked up. Completely different weighting

I am guessing Newbery cursed the willow? And made special edges with extra carry!?

Whatever Newbery did, it seems to be working this morning!  ;)

I doubt we'd fare better with the worlds greatest collection of willow....

I must admit that it's nice to see England bowling so well.
But when the ball is swinging so well, and some uneven bounce already, then you got to wonder how England will do when batting too! Pakistan have some decent bowlers, and I have been extremely impressed with Amir in particular!
So I suspect it will be a low scoring game for both sides!!  :(

The problem is that the pakistani batsmen lack technique against the moving ball. I would go as far as saying that i think this is most inexperienced batting line in test cricket at the moment.

it is a shame as i hate watching one sided contests.

Back on topic. . . . . . re: ST's bats . . .is it my eyes or is there a join on the toe as there are two shades of wood and alot of tape.
