Having read in TWC that some gloves were made that had no palms... got me thinking, should I cut the palms out of a pair of my gloves and see what the grip is like?
-
Would hurt your hands in a long innings

My Dad had a pair of these - he'd still wear them with inners and then change his inners if they got sweaty (not that he ever realy batted that long!)
Have found in the past from indoor cricket that bare hands on a grip makes the grip go all sticky and horrible
-
really bad idea, your bat grip will not last 1 innings, it will be sticky, horrible and uncomfortable... unless you use a tennis grip or something that is designed for that kind of use

This was a long, long time ago; possibly 50s or 60s
As was mentioned, the idea was to wear inners under the palmless gloves. This meant that if the inners got soaked with sweat just change them and similarly, if the inners wore but the protective part was undamaged, just replace the inners.
