Are Trescothick's and Gibbs' bats made by GM? I'd have thought MT would go to M&H since they're so close and make great bats.
-
Tresco used to have bats made by M+H in the eraly stages of his career, but when he was playing international he had them made by the head batmaker at GM, Kevin. He makes bats for almost all the international players sponsored by GM. I can tell you out of first hand experience that Tresco's bats are sublime and pickup like a feather!
-
Not sure about Gibbs but would guess the same about the Kevin thing.
-
Every bat I've seen from Tresco is GM made. I'm under the impression he gets his bats refurbed a lot.
He does have a great little thing where he writes each big knock on the shoulder of the bat.
-
He'll be running out of room soon, especially with his 200+ last outing!
Would love to see the highlites of that knock. 8)
-
My bat has nothing on the shoulders except dust from my bag.
I play in the east midlands and considering GM is in Notts I see very few people using their bats. I've never got the impression it's a place you can visit and pick out a cleft.

Pete, there normally is highlights for the county championship online.

I heard a rather unpleasant story about Tres and one of the bats he nets with. Lets just say my liking of him decreased dramatically!
-
Do tell Mr. Ridd! :)
-
Well... A mate of mine was doing work experience at the County Ground and he got to watch the players netting, when Tres was batting they were practicing driving over the top. He was playing them pretty well and on one of them he absolutely creamed it, everyone there was saying how good a shot it was and complimenting him. But for whatever reason he didn't like the shot and hurled his bat into the ground, then when the coaches asked him why he was doing it he picked up his bat, held it at an angle and leant on it with his knee, he put all his weight into it and therefore the handle snapped. He then had to go back to the changing rooms as he had only brought one bat out with him and everyone was making fun of him because of his ridiculous reaction.
-
Would have been quite funny if he tried to snap it but couldn't!
-
Doesn't strike me as something he would do! Although he does look pretty angry when he gets a low score and drags himself back to the changing room.
Langer had bats from m&h, there is one in the factory showroom with ice stickers. It has about 20 odd straight tight grains. He says it lasted him 3 seasons. That should put everyone that gets a new bat every year to shame!
-
Your mate should have jumped the fence and grabbed the bat.
-
I can tell you 100% that langer didnt exclusivley use M&H bats ;) . He was very much a bat tinkerer and often used a different bat each session - he said changing bats, even within a single innings, helps keep him focused as each has a slightly different feel.
-
I like the look of Trotts bat as well, dont think id ever buy a gm tho
-
are Trotts actually GMs?
-
Yes it will have been handmade by Kevin at GM
-
What on earth can possibly be so unsavoury about a net bat?
-
I have never sold a bat to Tres, I've been given one of his old ones years ago by his Dad, an M&H and a beauty but it snapped when used by a friend, never lend bats out......
-
I have a few of his bats here, which I'll take pics of when I get a chance.
-
Tresco's bat looked like it was going some in the T20 finals, i enjoyed watching him bat very much and was gutted both times when he got out.... pure CLASS
-
Couldn't agree more! Got pinned in the helmet by Cork though!
-
That was a pretty useful delivery...... he came off better than pollard tho OUCH
