Title: Bell, Bopara or Morgan
Post by: essexarsenal on September 04, 2010, 07:12:07 PM
seems like the ashes 11 is decided apart from number 6
cook, strauss, trott, KP, Colly, ?, Proir, Broad, Swann, Anderson, Finn

Surely its got to be Bell, he looks fitter, stronger and sports a more masculine haircut these days.

No way will bopara even get a look in,hasnt played test cricket since the last ashes when he got found out big tme.needs to force his way back in via the one day and has a good chance to do so with kp being dropped. think they will go with bell, but i still think we need an opener instead of cook.whats robert key done wrong??

I love how fickle sport is - 12 months ago Bell's name was mud, now people can't wait for his reassuring presence in the team.
I wonder if in 12 months time that Cook will have been on a wonder run and will be captain of the Test team.

Let me rephrase bell at 5/6 but not if he is put at 3 which I have always believed plus yes I am a warickshire fan

I agree Roco - he certainly wasn't England's worst player in the last Ashes - a few good fifties but no ton iirc

Bell is a scape goat at times as he is not a test no.3 but he wants to be like broad is not a  test 7 but he wants to be plus yes trott will be at 3 but still yet to be convinced at test level as sa sorted him out easy enough but will wait till after ashes and will be quite happy to eat my words

he has the tendancy to get too intense and introverted, think tha happened in sa. think the aussies will give him a barrage of abuse and wont put up with his idiosyncrisies- should  gret viewing! I see the aussies called up hazlewood- imsure he looked pretty militery medium when he played some one dayers over here?

I think Hazlewood is being brought through in the way Broad has been - I think Australia might be preparing him for a long term role and letting him get experience of being around the senior team. He is obviously a great prospect for them, and certainly a better bowler than the other fit options like McKay.

I have an inkling that Trott will be fine in Oz.

i agree that bell is a more accomplished player at test level but i think morgan has the ability to intimidate the aussies. dont know about everyone else but everytime morgan comes to the crease i get the feeling something could happen, where as with bell i just dont :L

I agree - at the moment - although in the long term Morgan will do really well - probably when Collingwood retires

in the mean time Bell has really earned his go - and has been out best bat for the last 18 months.
Bopara is mentally to fragile at the moment, for me.

either a edge to send slip or....a big innings, i also i think he copes well under pressure, something bell has been criticised for in the past...

There was a guy called McGrath, he was pretty much medium pace...

When he started out he was actually quitre sharp, and Mcgrath always had zip, even when his bowling speeds were down ate down at 80mph.

Hazlewood is 18, I'm sure he'll build up the pace.

Anyhow he was clocked at 87mph, which is pretty handy for an 18yo

Can Bell cope with the pressure in Australia, Im sure morgan could and he's a good fielder too. But yes I think it should be Bell as well :)

On current form, bell, but dealing with the pressure is of the utmost importance, especially when boundary fielding..., I think Morgan will be 2nd choice number 6, give him a decent run in the side and he'll do well I reckon...
