Title: BES [Bollinger Edge System]
Post by: Buzz on September 07, 2010, 07:08:31 PM
Members of the forum. I am very conscious that there are rumours of a new measurement for bat edges, involving a semi mythical Queen Mother 38.61mm coin.

Norbs, I hope I am able to do you justice with this. :o

I think I should make it clear that it is not my intention to replace the current FPotE standard [50p on the bat edge, 27.3mm] measurement, more that when a rather special cleft appears, this new measurement of choice can be used.

So by way of example, please see a rather nice bat Indian bat with a 30mm edge, as demonstrated by the use of the current FPotE standard.

I think we can all agree that this is a decent sized edge.

I am also going to show you the new BES Standard on my semi mythical SAF Genus 100 which, you will agree is a BIG bat:

Peroni reminds me of some very dark nights and sliding of a batstool at 4am after another Saturday night lock in!

Loving your revolutionary ideas on the FPotE!

As luck would have it i have dug out my 25p coin that was of the 1981 era with the Prince of Wales and Lady Spencer on the back of it :) will be using it for the BeS although i fear it wont be very often at 38mm!

Nice work - Is that another double (or in this case tripple) headed coin?

Yes mate...iv had it ages (its a year older than me) along with a few other coins in my desk drawer! seeing your one made me look at it and stuck it in google only to find out it was a 25p version. HRH is on the front of it in all her glory :)

I'm waiting for mine to come, we'll need to have a dedicated thread with a complete list of acceptable coins for edge measuring in a graded table up and running soon for the less sad members to aspire to.

Acceptable coins can be listed here...

these are acceptable

as are any of these http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/dec/25/index.html

I think that all chocolate coins are a big no no as they can be softened and manipulated to offer a false view of edge sizes.....

As the Chairman of the FPotE and Ping OCD Group I feel I should outline some standards

FPotE Grade 1

A Type A Edge is an edge that has a minimum size of a 10 pence piece at the 10 pence piece edge size the spine height must be the equivalent of 2 BES and have a minimum of County Level Ping.  It must be stickered with shiny stickers and weigh no more then 2lb 10oz finished with 1 grip. The pickup needs to be good and will need to be stated as picks up like 2lb 9oz

FPotE Grade 1+

A Type A+ Edge is an edge that has a minimum size of a 50 pence piece at the 50 pence piece edge size the spine height must be the equivalent of 2 BES and have a minimum of Pro Level Ping.  It must be stickered with shine stickers with a minimum of 5% sliver or gold foil in the stickers and weigh no more then 2lb 9oz finished with 1.5 grips. The pickup needs to be great and will need to be stated as picks up like 2lb 8oz

FPotE Grade 1++

A Type A++ Edge is an edge that has a minimum size of the semi mythical Queen Mother 38.61mm coin [smQMC] at the smQMC edge size the spine height must be the equivalent of 3 BES and have a minimum of Jet Fighter Level Ping.  It must be stickered with shiny stickers with a minimum of 10% sliver or gold foil in the stickers and weigh no more then 2lb 8oz finished with 2 grips the pickup needs to be angel delight light and will need to be stated as picks up like Angelina Jolie made it whilst pod shaving naked

rumours circulating up in Londinium

Hold on, how do we know that is a big coin, it could just be a small one sat on a poll to bring it closer to the camera, side angles needed along with a written statement from the BBC conforming that this has not been staged or faked.

Couldn't find anyone from the BBC to watch me take the new picture but I got this

Hi Norbs

Thanks for the cup of tea.  Also, as requested, I can confirm there was no tricks involved with the following picture of the Number 1 Dad chocolate coin.

In my roll as Director of BeS and arbitrator of all things smQMC - I am making the ruling that only legal tender can be used - but it does not have to be UK legal tender - to a EUR10 coin qualifies and any other coin with a minimum diameter of 38.61mm

Having said that - that looks like my first sighting of a SAF Audax - and the blank bat in the picture looks rather lovely too.

Not sure why I am confused but I am failing to understand which coin is being used in BES thinge.

Can someone please state it's mm dimensions so I can look upon Canadian coins which are of same size. Usually they are of same size..
