What an achievement from the master. It was a great innings today and i hope he can get to 15000 before he retires.
-
When was this?
-
51.1 Siddle to Tendulkar, 3 runs, That's the record! He lunges forward to a full delivery outside off and deftly glides it down to third man, he pumps his fists as he completes the second run, he's now the highest run-scorer in Tests beating Lara's tally of 11,953, fireworks go up in the stadium, he gets a rousing standing ovation from the crowd and his team-mates, there's a brief hold up in play as the fireworks seem to last forever! All the Australians rush to congratulate him. The Australians are taking a breather, normal service has been disrupted, that's for sure! Incidentally, Lara overtook Allan Border's record against Australia as well, in Adelaide in 2005

is this match on now?
-
No it's in India, so starts around 4:30/5:00 am and finishes around mid-day.
-
Okay is this the 2nd test we on about here?
-
Yes
-
Awsome achievement. If Kris Srikanth is to be believed, Sachin would play for at least 2-3 more years. If he does so, He will surely cross 15,000 milestone...and Ponting can kiss goodbye to his dreams of overtaking Sachin.
-
Was a bit fortunate a couple of times but apart from that it was the best i've seen Sachin play in along time.
-
Pontings body is holding up much better than Sachins, I believe Ponting will go past Tendulkar and become the top run scorer in test cricket, maybe then he'll get the credit he deserves..
-
dont count on it outlaw
remeber it was all a fluke
-
What a champion hope he continues for at least 2 or 3 more years, Ponting is not in the class of Lara or Sachin if he does get the record it wuld be quite sad. As for Sachin what a gun!! Unbelievable!! 12,000 Interesting to note Ishant Sharma got his 100th run in test as well!!!
-
hes not a bad little batter is he. Can anyone give a reason why ponting shouldnt be in that class of lara and tendulkar?
-
mainly his attitude and personality (for me)
-
Ponting is good batsman. I would put him a shade below Sachin and Lara.
However, if you look at all the attributes that make a great cricketer, I feel there is a wide gap after Sir Don Bradman and Sachin. Alan Border, Sunil Gavaskar, Pointing, LAra etc....all were not gentlemen in the true sense of the game. Some of them were jsut playiong for themselves or the records during the later part of their careers....
Playiong for the pure love for the game and because they enjoyed playing .... Sri Don and Sachin are probably the only examples one can give to today's youngsters...
The Game....COuntry and them self..... thats the way to play....
-
Im'm not trying to bag you here yash, but does beign a gentleman of the game really count fro much today. If so why isnt Mark taylor one of the best batsman in the world.
Chaim, since when does personality contribute to a batsman's greatness?
-
To me playing the game like a gentleman and integrity is foremost. And I think there are still people out there who apprecite and respect such players.
Yes, MArk Taylor should be included in the list. I remember him not because he was the Aussie captain, but for declarignt he innings against Pak when he could have created a world record. Awsome dedication to the team and the country... foregoing personal milestone for winning the game for the country.

Great player, the longer he carries on the better. Think there are a few thousand runs left in him :)
