Currently have gt's in youths, find them marginally too small and a little bulky
I will be buying new pads and didnt know which of these options to go for:
1. Youths sps (all white ones) i have heard these are slightly bigger and less bulky? maybe small mens if i can get them somewhere!
2. Puma Flextec - could go for these, they have small top hat i am led to believe and dont look too big
3. GM Ravi's - again nice and lightweight and dont look huge!
What are peoples thoughts!!
-
SPS pads are definitely less bulky than the GTs. A mate has a pair of GTs and I was suprised at how wide they are! I'd always go for Newbery softs, they seem to be making the pick of the bunch at the minute.
-
yeah just dont want them to look really really thin in the smaller size, like pencil pads :D (thats what we call them!) and dont want them to be as small as gt's!
-
I'd say the SPS are taller than the GTs, but also thinner. Not by a great deal though.

I have the GM ravi's. Very light (only very very slightly heavier than my Morrants) & comfortable, plus are easy to wipe clean.
They used to feel a little wide at the top, & occasionally I'd catch them with my bat (hence me buying the morrants) but i started storing them in my bag with the straps done up tight to bend them more, and now they seem to fit me better.
If i were you I'd try them on first but all in all a nice pad IMO

yeah thinking for sps or puma flextec, anyone shed any light on puma's? performance, comfort and fitting wise?

Yeah I was thinking about purchasing some of them but they seem quite wide and they look as though they don't bend around the legs properly.
while searching about for some new pads i came across some pads from Boundary Sports that look very similar to the top of the range puma pads
(the link straight to the pads didn't work but if you go to senior batting bats through www.boundarysports.com (http://www.boundarysports.com) you can find them)
they seem like very good value, but i'm waiting until all of the new cricket gear is out next season before purchasing anything.

I had some ballistic 6000 MRH when they first came out.
I'm about 5ft 7 ish and found them really bulky, big and noisy, but really light
Since then i have gone back to using top spec youth pads and have been happier.
I am in a similar situation to you Sam being roughly to same height.
-
all the flextech imitations are uncomfortable and dig into your legs big time. cji, boundary etc are no go for pads
-
I'd go SPS youth, they look, protect and feel great on the leg.
-
Thanks biggy. At 5 8and half they may be okay then? The design may have moved on too!
-
nick nack ill bring our youth LH ones along in case you want a look....but then u are a fussy one so maybe no point!!!

I'd stick with youth pads personally
-

-

Added that to my sig as people always try sell me RH Kit :D

oh yeah good point! sorry pal!

From what I've heard the Pima flextechs are a bit unwieldy; I'd suggest the sps pads, or if you're looking for another option, try the gn xiphos pp pads, they are snug and offer great protection tbh..
