As the title says, what is the best wicket you have ever played on?
Mine was 2 years ago for the 3rds! Playing at Taunton Cricket Club, at the time Phil Frost the then Somerset groundsman was doing the pitches and it was superb!
Found out today that a week before I played there, there was a 2nd xi game between Somerset vs Essex played on the same ground with the likes of Grant Flower, Andy Caddick, Tony Palladino, Chris Wright, Max Waller etc.... :D

I have played at Guildford, Bank of England and Beckenham - which I think are three of the best club tracks around. The met police ground at Imber Park used to be a really good pitch, but was pretty average when I played there this year.
-
Sophia Gardens, before they went big time....
-
played at the Essex county ground (chelmsford) 10 years ago in the matchplay finals to which we won :)
-
Played here a few years back : http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cricketscotland.com/system/files/images/DM7gett.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.cricketscotland.com/node/11337&usg=__bbW-grePvM6ccfCGFQztPaaxroQ=&h=309&w=500&sz=42&hl=en&start=13&zoom=0&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=9Un3wpQl-vVtWM:&tbnh=80&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djohn%2Bpaul%2Bgetty%2Bcricket%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1
john getty's private ground in wormsley, buckinghamshire. plus it was 3 days after flintoff played there for lancs. amazing ground!
-
Played on the Nursery Ground up at Lords. That's by far the best I've played on. Very true bounce.
-
I have played at Guildford, as it was my home club, Holmbury St Mary, County ground in basingstoke, Friendly on a sunday, Normandy is another nice ground.

Also my fav ground iv played at. Top class.
-
Viv Richards stadium or The Stanford Ground. Stupidly nice grounds!!!
-
RoCo I have played at all three of those grounds too - Holmbery is wonderful, especially when Charles Colville isn't there!!! (not a track in the same league as some though).
-
jdask that is a seriously nice ground
id love to play at a decent ground most weeks our home pitch is terrible :(
-

I played with Charles's Son, Raoul Colville, Was a pleasant chap, Unlike his father, Only downside with the ground at holmbury, you need a 4x4 to get up the hill,
-
Woolpit CC, Road everytime. Lovely :)
-
Chester Boughton Hall on tour was nice.
Nearer home it would be the centre pitch at Blackpool on a scorching sunday :)
-

Is this the same guy? http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/296153.html
-
Played for Bristol against Manchester, Dublin, Sheffield in a lord taveners comp but cant remember the name of the ground now....lol county sides have played there and is towards london
-
All off these roads! any proper bowlers choosing the best wicket they've played on because it does a bit for them: turns/seams/bounces! probably also because a proper bowler wouldnt have batted on it :L
-
Blandford Army camp in Dorset is pretty good. Rock hard deck, with a perfect flat round outfield with short grass.
Also played at Great and Little Tew. On tour, played against that Jack Taylor. The one that was 12th man for england. He is in the Gloucestershire academy.
-
Also played at Tonbridge Wells which was nice, I think Kent play some of their games there each year?? Spinners heaven there!! Campbell park is probably the best one we have locally.
-
York cc or Scarborough, Harrogate and New Rover aren't too shabby...
-

campbell park is very nice. my club hire it out at the strat of the season when our ground is still being used by the rugby club!
-
The Milfield School pitch for me by a mile!

Yeah it is pal, he is our overseas :)
Look at 2009 stats as well, 201 and a 197 :)
-
Humm school pitches - I have played at Bryanston, Canford, Milfield and many other decent west country school tracks... The Canford one was probably the quickest of them.
-
The Milfield School pitch for me by a mile!
Good Shout!
-
tunbridge wells is a road!
-
Teddington CC is a good one...
-
Norton Lindsey cricket Club!! My home ground :D
It has been voted the best wicket in the league for the past number of years :)

Must be nice watching everyone else making use of it!!
Only kiddin mate!

i played at the chestefield (derby county ground) this season, beatiful wicket and you could see the twisted spire through the trees (teas were suber aswell ) :D:D:D
-
Probably the Saffrons at Eastbourne, but my reputation is a player who misses out on the good ones but will make 50 or 60 on a sticky dog... so maybe the best wickets Ive played on are the green, wet, uncovered and underprepared ones from anywhere around the country!
-
The county ground at Taunton. Best batting track in the country or it was back then. Once you get in, you can't fail.
-
Uppingham School... WOW
-
its a venue for Leics County Championship games, just unreal
-
Best club grounds I have played at -
Deane Park Bournemouth
North Perrott (when the old groundsman was there, gone down hill now)
Bath
Frocester (road and small boundaries)
Truro
Lansdown (always scored runs there)
The ground in Bishops Lydeard where M&H and then Bradbury had their factory.
-
Marlow in Bucks. Best allrounder cricket wicket I played on. Pace, bounce, turned a bit and the overhead conditions had a bit in it for the swing bowlers. Here's this years example:-
http://www.cricinfo.com/minorcounties/engine/current/match/439759.html
but I could be biased....
-
Arundel....thats the ground i played at prob the best i graced ;)
-
looked like it was a good deck that day !!
-
Humm school pitches - I have played at Bryanston, Canford, Milfield and many other decent west country school tracks... The Canford one was probably the quickest of them.
I have also played at Bryanston School. Decent place, was only Under13 at the time though

Lansdown has been a lovely wicket every time I've played there, even though it rained all week prior to a game once....!
I agree with you about North Perrott's wicket as it was surprisingly bad when I played last year, but as you said its probably to do with the groundsman!
Bishops Lydeard is also a nice ground, only 25 mins from here :)

Also played at dean park, when in the under13's. I was the only to miss out with 9 and everyone else retiring on 25!
Agreed on North Perrot, was great with the old groundsman. Nice clubhouse as well. Nearly slipped down the staircase going out to bat!
-

Same! Poor design really, metal on metal is a bit scary!
-
Culford school, Fairly decent wicket offers a bit for everyone but more a lovely scene to play cricket :)
-

Lansdowne has been superb everytime i played there. I played there about 4 years ago. They hit 298 and we got them for 2 in 43 overs. They had ex England bowler Paul Jarvis playing and he went round the park for 90 odd of his 12 overs !!!
North Perrot used to be the best around when Tom Parkman did the ground. Lots of politics at the club now hence why a few have left the club and they have gown down the leagues.
I don't mean the main Bishops Lydeard ground (that is ok) but there is another ground down in the village. It gets very little use.
Played at Dean Park for the Somerset pick of the league years ago. Very nice ground for batting, not so good for bowling....as i found out
-
Same! Poor design really, metal on metal is a bit scary!
Yeah, nice carpet changing room and then right. Lil nervous going out to bat and try to walk slowly!
One thing though, they need to sort out the lock on the toilet door!
-
Played once at Finchampstead, the wicket was like glass, you could almost see your face in it, absolutely concrete. We bowled first and it rained towards the end of their innings, but we kept on playing. By the time I got to bat on it , the thing looked like any other muddy deck :-(
Played at Finchley and Southgate - both lovely decks...as long as your weren't a bowler.
-
Trent Bridge :D
-
Finchampstead was a team we played on our 1st tour game we posted 366 in 40 overs which didn't impress them as we were slightly boost when piling off the mini bus! Indian lad we took with us scored 120 odd with 4 sixes in a row! Even I scored 80....5 pint plateau ;)
-

Haha, bad luck mate!

Ideal! Its a great place to play cricket... apart from when the air ambulance has to land on the pitch!
Yeah its a shame about North Perrott as we all enjoyed playing there in our league.... I was talking to their first team opener (Nick) who works at M&H, and he says they have struggled to put out 2 teams all season and as a result lost every game they played...
Ah I dont know Lydeard all that well, never knew that there was another ground in the village!
-
Aylesbury Town ( I am biased but I am talking under old groundsman othjers need to judge now)
If not probably Beaconsfield or Tring Park
-
Europa Point in Gibraltar- batting from one end you will be facing Spain in Europe and from the other end you will be facing Morrocco in Africa.I dont think that there is another pitch where you will face 2 different continents from either end. :)
-
Beaconsfield - are you drunk! - it's one of the slowest lowest decks in the world. Once watched becky fail to chase 100 odd in a league game and they weren't even close. That was a couple of years ago, and from what I hear it's not much better now. That said my brother once spanked 150 odd in a sunday game a few years before - so I guess it depends when you last visited it.
Hear Trings ok, but the 2 times I played there it wasn't great - biggest problem is bowling uphill in the wind and sun! I'm right in thinking it's an east/west wicket?
-
Ian - never had the helicopter land when i have played there but have heard about it. They had a Kiwi, Jeremy Deane who played for them in the game i mentioned above. He hit a six into the glass entrance doors of the Hospital !! massive
Such a shame what is happening at Perrott. I nearly went to play there about 6 years ago but things did not work out. Yea i know Nick, funnily enough he played for Bishops Lydeard before NP and Taunton Saint Andrews before that.

Sounds ace Prevon. Is Richard Askew still the coach out there ?
-
Yeah it happened this year when I played there, delayed the game for about an hour! I was already out when it landed so didn't bother me! And that is a huge hit into the hospital, right across the road!!
Yeah its shocking really... I played against Nick when he played for Lydeard aswell, I couldn't work out why he had moved to Perrott at the start of this year as he was skipper at Lydeard.... I think it may be to do with the fact that Lydeard don't want to get promoted into the Bristol and Somerset Division... when they won the league 2 years ago they asked the WEPL if they could stay put in the Somerset league...
-
Would have to say the best track was west bromwich and dartmouths really nice track
-
He lives in North Perrott i think.
-
Sorry don't get out much,
Trying to think in the Cherwell league where i played most my cricket lots of decent tracks but no special ones I can remember.

Good choice mate! I live about 10 minutes away from the ground and must agree its a beaut!

Agreed, absolutely lovely ground!

That clears that one up then!
-
Rich is still about and was horrified to see me with a Bulldog! He is a good bloke and I will be inviting him to bring a team here to Malaga this winter.
Sounds ace Prevon. Is Richard Askew still the coach out there ?
-
I don't know that for sure Ian, but I have been told that is why he went to play there. Would make sence.
-
LOL, yea good bloke and good coach. Funnily enough he was coach at North Perrott for a bit.
-
Agreed, absolutely lovely ground!
Sorry for being nosy but who do you play for and when did you play there mate?
-
Played there a couple of times. Played for Westland CC there in the National Knock Out Cup. We beet them in a reduced over game. Truro had Charlie Shreck, Michael Munday and a few other playing. Will get the scorecard up in a minute.
heres the link to that scorecard - http://westlands.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=7658
Also played there for Somerset in various age groups from U13's to U19's. remeber scoring a 50 on the second pitch there.
Do you play there ?
-
Has to be the main square at Lords really! ;)
-
Sorry for being nosy but who do you play for and when did you play there mate?
I play up in Lincolnshire. My family are from Cornwall. I've played a small amount of cricket there, only a few nets and a knockabout. I've seen some awesome games there though. Andy Caddick's testimonial, for one! My uncle's dad is the big dog there!

I went to that game! Was brilliant! I might as well keep up my nosiness and ask whereabouts in Cornwall your family is from? :D
-
Truro through and through, although I think they spent a few years in threemilestone. Are you from truro?

is that the one next to the thames?
-
South Northumberland.
-
the one nearest the thames, in higginson park, would be Marlow Park, Marlow CC is just over the road in the enclosed Marlow Sports Club grounds.
-
Has to be the main square at Lords really! ;)
think anyone would do well to beat that one mate :D
-
Braunton is another good one - played there on tour a couple of times. Mark Lathwell was there after he finished with Somerset...
-
Yeah thats a lovely pitch too used to play them in a midweek game...remember sleeping in their changing rooms when eng played brazil in the world cup in the early hours of the morning....going back a few years now though!
-
Truro through and through, although I think they spent a few years in threemilestone. Are you from truro?
I'm from Probus mate, about 10/15 minutes away.
