Hi Guys,
I want to buy a salix fero bat but as i am in australia i can't test it out. So i would like to ask other forum members if
they are good blades.

Salix have a good reputation here based mainly on being very expensive bats and the association of a high price equals high quality. Personally I don't find them ahead of the pack in any area apart from presentation of products. If you are after a Fera then I'm sure you will find it a good bat but you may find a better performing and value bat here on the forum if you bought a Black Cat, SAF or Hell4Leather bat.

The Fera is described as the lightest of their 'models' with the highest middles. My old Salix Vantage was a lovely bat - sadly retired at the start of the season was replaced with a shiny new Praestantia - 2'8 in weight. Lovely pickup. Just unable to get on with it.
As Talisman has said, they are expensive and you could / would find better performing bats with the custom companies on here. Spending time on here, looking at the likes of SAF and Black Cat I wish i had purchased one of their blades for the 2010 season. I wouldnt buy Salix again.

I am using salix bats next year, and have not seen a bad one yet to be fair, but then again im not playing the full price, if i did pay the full price I would be looking at H4L (can personally recommend) SAF, Talisman or Black cat. Loads of choice so all i say is be picky!

I'd also suggest that if you are going to spend Salix money, you looked at M&H, as they'll custom make for you. Also Hunts County are happy to do that (though not many people seem to know about that service), and are way lower priced than Salix.

Your right they are very expensive and their finishing is phenomenal. as for getting your value for money with regards to ping / how far the ball travels of the bat, its an expensive £ per m.
I have used the salix pods (finite equivalents) for over a decade. got me many runs, sounded great of the bat, was very attractive to look at and got a lot of attention (i even had to take the stickers off and replace them with other stickers on, so that no one got too jealous of it to to steal it. it did the job. But if i was to buy another salix I'm sure i would as it did the job last time and will do so again esp as i dont have too many years left in playing so i would pay the extra money just for that.
but if you sourced a cheaper bat that did the same job, then obviously do that.

IMHO both are overpriced for what they are!
Do Salix claim to be making all their bats in UK?

Wow this is an oldie!
Just shows how times change, 6 years ago I would also have said m and h too are excellent, and salix.
Nowadays salix are still very good, but there are other brands that have caught up quality wise.
I'd still buy both these brands myself (as long as the bats were 6 years old!) :)

Salix definitely do their own Senior bats in the UK - AJK is without doubt a perfectionist and their finishing is generally exquisite!
Junior bats? Who knows about that. Many batmakers look at the likes of Ton and others to make their size 1-6 as it is not commercially viable for them to do this - and if they did handmake all their size1-6 bats, then it would take up most of their time with very little reward.
Therefore I would guess that a lot brands will look to source decent quality Ton (or similar English willow quality) for the little batsmen amongst us.
It's funny that people question this practice though - cricket softs have been outsourced to Indian/Asian brands for a long time and people no longer question the quality!
Anyway I do hope that Salix continue to stick to their high standards of true pod shaving and continue to produce some gorgeous bats!

I bought 2 size 6s off Percy on here Pete and I'm no expert, but they look very much like the full size ones I've had!

I didn't say that Salix outsource their smaller sized bats - I only stated that some makers do and you can't blames them.
I'm sure that others outsource smaller sized bats when they are manically busy but are happy to make them when they are quieter!
But it is pointless speculating about something that may not happen or may only happen once in a while.
I prefer to just be happy that Salix hand make stunning bats!

I am pretty sure the junior bats are made by Andrew. Certainly one of the bats that JB had off me was made in front of me by him! I know he used to do some much cheaper small bats (Rascals?) that were Indian made but he was very open about that.
