Post by: Howzat on September 21, 2010, 07:00:57 PM
People keep talking about how kook are releasing some expensive gloves next year... Anyone got any ideas why these are going to be so expensive?

Wonder if these are them? (http://www.cricketcentre.com.au/productimages/thumbnails/WKK001.jpg)
found it on GCCC costs 250 AUD

I assume the palms are superglue based to assure no drops, otherwise for £150 they aren't worth it......

They're so light and about 10ft wide with flypaper palms. Don't edge it if you're a batsman

Made from Kangaroo Scrotum. Don't get much leather per Kangaroo and they are designed for keeping hold of balls.

i think a pair of wicket keeping gloves can easily justify that sort of price tag. although for that sort of money i would personally opt for custom made to my own preferences. you must remember that like a bat you will get a lot of use from them. in most cases more than an actual bat (match time).

would happily part with that sort of cash if i would get 3 seasons out of them. although vsports do the custom ones for a similar price, and i personally think they would win hands down.

you can get customs for half that price mate, from the guy that makes the Vsports gloves. Just costs you an extra 60 notes to order through their website

They are class gloves mate, probably one of the best pairs you can buy at the moment (ignoring the roo skin ones) but I have just got a pair of custom made for a tenner less but the fella who makes Prior's gloves

I havent used these particular gloves but ive used many other Kookabura keeping gloves and if im honest i think the SS gloves are better, the last couple of seasons i have used the green camo SS gloves which i cant fault, they have now started to wear away but they have seen a good 70 games and i shall i have my very own Insinct keeping gloves soon anyway.

You are also one of only four people in the world with a truly LE set of SS gloves made purely for Test keepers and the other 3 owners are Kartik, Sangakkara and Dhoni.....

Welcome back son...

Cheers mate, holiday was class. Too many good stories mostly involving unlimited rum, sandy beaches and a tan that would put Cheryl Cole to shame ;) check the facebook for photos shortly.

Gutted I couldn't find a cricket game out there though ;)

Yeah they are great-well i like them! I've not used them but they fit well as do my other SS gloves.

Cant see myself using these tbh, want to keep 'new' as we wont see another pair of these.

Was going to say mate, I've just got some non padded inners and make THE WORLD of difference...
Title: Re: Kookabura £150 gloves
Post by: justnotcricket86 on March 28, 2011, 10:00:21 PM
I have been using some plain cotton inners and they are much better. Unless you are keeping to 80+ bowlers there is no real point getting padded inners. You only loose the feel anyway

Just had a thought....

I have recently purchased a pair of Wymer customs and 2 pairs of SS LE Players keeping gloves. Going to decide what I want to use, but now I am thinking I could have bought these kooks for the money I have paid out......

but would they be as good??

and if you keep a pair or two and offload the other you've still saved money.

do you not like your customs? leaning towards ss?

Hha very true mate. What do you dislike about your customs tho? Was just looking back on your topic of when you got them and you loved them...
Title: Re: Kookabura £150 gloves
Post by: justnotcricket86 on April 07, 2011, 10:23:01 PM
I just don't like them mate, nice gloves but too padded, catching area too small and too snug as he didn't send prints with inners. SS ones are killing them. I see you are after wymers, if you scratch off my initials, you can have mine

Post by: justnotcricket86 on April 07, 2011, 10:24:43 PM
I did love them reds, and they are nice gloves. just asking myself am I willing to spend 2 years wearing them into what I want when the SS gloves are stunning from the off. You said yourself that yours have been used for a season and still as stiff as a lorry driver in a brothel

Yer they are mate but I have noticed how nice have soft they are now since using the non padded inners. I'm just not sure on the Ouch.com factor lol

yes liam, I asked him if he wanted inners handprints and he said no, I will allow for that. So i sent regular handprints

yes over priced! i bet the top SS are just as good.

my customs fit perfect when i spoke to geoff he said he makes them a tad bigger to allow for inners.

maybe cos i went to see him i got mine perfect
