Hello all, first post so I thought I'd share my latest bat. Mjolnir SPS 2'10, anywhere between 21 and 24 grains (varies according to light and my blood alcohol level). I've never had a bat with so many grains as I'm a believer that they don't last as long, however I didn't pay much for it so if it goes like a train for a season I'll be happy.

Ebay bargain. The previous owner obviously didnt believe in knocking in, as the edges were still square when I got it, but there are a few dents on the face, so the chap has obviously used it. He claimed it was a month old, I can well believe it. It came with a 1 year old Mjolnir Players which is a bit beaten up but still quite sound and I didn't pay much at all. The SPS pings well on the mallet but I'm not a big believer in reading too much into that, not until it has been properly knocked in at least. Going to give it some TLC over the winter and use it in anger next year, with the Players as a rather worthy back up.

Oh think I saw that listing! Didn't you end up paying about £136 for the pair?

Hi Jon and welcome to the forum.
You can check how old the bat is by looking on the shoulder of the bat and you should find a letter and number indented. The first letter will stand for the year. I think that 2010 was letter E, 2009 was D, and so on.
We have a few Newbery bats on thus forum without this on the shoulder, but this is due to a couple of buyers hand picking the bats from the newbery workshop before the stamp is used on the shoulder of the bat!

It went a little higher than that, but not much. I know buying bats on ebay is always a gamble, but I back myself to pick out a fake.
petehosk: Many thanks for the welcome, the SPS is an E prefix, the Players is a B, so a bit older than stated by the seller. Never mind, not a bad deal nonetheless.

Both 2'10, it is interesting to look at the subtle differences in profile between the two. I have to be honest, I hate the castrol sticker, I'm not a sponsored player so it shouldn't be there. It will be removed in time.
Oh, does anyone know how much a refurb from Newbery costs these days?

there are many people on here who do bat refurbs, contact mike (talisman) craig (hit4six) or bat repairs and theyll all sort you out well :)
And tbf, i think the stickers look snazzy on the back , makes me feel important which is always a bonus ;)
